Expandable foam, good day sir! By NotADruggie. 02/04/12, 03:34 pm |
| ""Also, Relatively Large Props Discussion? who has used expandable foam before? doing paper mache on top of my Glaive atm and have yet to figure out my colour scheme for end product,""
^^ Quoted from my freind whos making Illidian glaives with panda faces from Warcraft 3 Expansion the frozen throne, not to be confused with WoW.
Any tips or anything to look out for when using expandable foams?
P.S Asking this for a freind cause he hasent made a CNZ account before, not sure if this is allowed. If not I am sorry and will commit Seppuku. |

| Expanding foam is great for making car spoilers and that, doesnt matter what brand thought but be prepared for a huge mess(Lots of excess to cut)
Another to try is higher density Foam than polystyrene which you can get from art stores or Formans insulation usually green, blue, or pink.(Great for RC gliders and hot wire cutting too) |

| Expanding foam is really good for making light weight props. Here's a tutorial I made about using it to make a keyblade, hope it helps :)

| I dealt with expanding foam for a while a few years ago. It's a pretty expensive option if you're going to be using large amounts of it.
The pros of it it's easier to carve and lighter than extruded foams and it sticks to almost anything which you apply it too.
The cons are once you start cutting and carving it, you'll find it's very porous. Avoid sanding unless you have a mask or respirator, as the dust it very toxic; same with hot wire cutting - the fumes are toxic also.
And avoid too much sunlight on it until it's painted - UV light makes it 'brittle'.
