there's wellington armageddon which is april 21-22nd i believe, and that's held in the TSB arena. (: there's also a hamilton armageddon if you're willing to travel, but you'd have to check the dates.

aside from that, the local cosplayers do a few meetups, so definitely jump in with those!

I live in Wellington /o/

Most of us cosplayers make our own costumes. A few people have bought some off Taobao, but that's still a reasonably new way to get them here. So the main way we obtain our costumes are through blood, sweat and tears, haha.

As stated people usually just make theirs. You learn skills, pay for only the material, and probably get to know some people as you need to learn off others. Don't worry if it's pretty rough, cosplayers here will respect your first attempts and encourage you to keep getting better.

Of course Taobao or other sites are probably cheaper. But then you hope it fits properly.
Locally there are cosplayers who will take commissions. Of the top of my head, from wellington, I only remember Sylvie.
