助けて!!! Need help on this Katana. By ROCKiwi. 14/11/11, 11:48 am |
| Hey guys! so I was making this katana, I looked at some references and the handle seems to be rectangular/flatish but I can't figure out how to make it that way, my handle is round and a bit thin and I need it to fatten and flatten it whist still keeping it strong(maybe something to add underneath, I have no idea). I don't want to spend over $10 on something as simple as a katana. another thing is, how to I make the blade shiny?
this is what my handle looks like so far, it's PVC piping underneath the grip fabric. don't worry about the design, I can't be bothered:
- Spoiler:
I want to make it wider like this:

Thanks, any help is appreciated :) |

| Uuh, I keep thinking expanding foam and paper mache method. but that stuff is over 10 bucks :/
You could build up with paper mache? Or like. . cut the shape you want out of cardboard or something, stick it on the handle then paper mache over that to give it strength?
I'm not sure if that helps, haha. .
As for shiny. . tin foil? 8D; it could be quite crinkly though. |

| Traditionally wood, so if you have wood lying around? Or pack it with foam, cardboard, rolled up paper or anything really. Most people paint the blade I think. So it comes down to choice of paint (Gloss/Metallic/particular shade of grey), and maybe choice of sealant/clear-coat? But it may be that $10 is going to be tough. |

| That's an awesome Katana! I should attempt making one, one day. c:
Also, just a suggestion, (and I'm not entirely sure if this will work,) but maybe using some kind of metallic paint could work. I'm not sure if polymer clay's metallic paint will work on anything else other than polymer clay. Then again, they're pretty expensive.
You know what, (instead of what I just said,) glazing it with some kind of finishing polish could it shiny. (Or glossy.) Try floor varnish, or even nail polish.
Test it out before using it. I could be 100% wrong. |
