Who Is Tobi? (Naruto)

Ok well since Madara has come back alive Tobi is not him. But there are a few possibilities but the one stands out to me more is Kagami Uchiha.

Kagami Uchiha supposedly died before or after the Uchiha massacre, so the fact his death is not certain, he may be still alive!

In the manga the fourth hokage was fighting with Tobi when Obito was a kid then, As in the manga Kakashi took one eye of Obito so cant be Obito.

Tobi knew about Root, and Kagami was on the same team as Danzo in the past.

Also Tobimaru Senju is the first leader of his team so there might be some connections there. Or simply Tobimaru Senju took his eyes? but that would be impossible since he's dead.

You have alot of info so your theory is most likely true but here is what i think.....

Do you remember that guy Shisui Uchiha? He was Itachi's best friend who was supposedly killed before the Uchiha massacre, and his eyes were taken. They could have been replaced though, using medical ninjustsu (because Sasuke was given Itachi's eyes, so why could Shisui not do the same with someone elses eyes?)

Although Shisui was a good guy, the akatsuki may have taken him in and changed him.

That is just my theory anyway naruto

yeah i thought it was Obito too, there are alot of signs pointing to it (the eyes, the name and how he 'died' but no one retreived his body -i think-) but then @Shellyskittles has a point, with him being a kid and all.

~~then again there could be two masked persons, the first was someone else and the one now is Obito?

And @tashamanx1 has a point to with Shisui, I also think that its him because of (well, all her reasons.)

It will prolly be Orochimaru or Sasuke - their characters most match the villain type.

It would just be lame if they added some vanilla encountered once in a flashback character as Tobi.
Obito and Shisui are too young as neither couldnt have given the rinnegan to nagato, or fought with the fourth hokage.
It was also Obitos left eye that was given to Kakashi, and Tobis left eye is the Sharingan.

We know that Tobi is old, possibly not native to any of the eyes, and has access to time-space abilities.

@Tash, yes that may be a possibilities, Shisui may be a good guy but anyone will turn their backs on their village if they ordered a massacre of their clan behind their backs so they wouldn't be sucked into a group such as Akatsuki , I think from memory/prediction Shisui would have been dead long after Akatsuki was formed and there has been no mentions of him or long before I cant remember but yes a possibilities since Akastsuki was formed after the 3rd Ninja war. But anyways if his eyes were taken he is probably most likely to be dead, but i see no sense Danzo giving them back :3,But on the other hand Kagami Uchiha would seek out the same desires as Tobi if his whole clan got massacred. But it still remains to be 100% said if he is dead or alive but it's unknown ):

@Kitten, Can't be Orochimaru but may be a possibilities for Kabuto to bring him back and somehow he got the eyes from Danzo? arms or something but i don't remember Kabuto taking his body? Anyways no one could have the abilities that Tobi has unless it's an experienced Uchiha but nether less they may know alot of Uchiha skills from research, It's impossible Orochimaru to be Tobi since Kabuto would back him the whole time if Tobi was Orochimaru.But anyways Sasuke would be out of the question since Sasuke accompanied Tobi for a while. But yes! Tobi is old, but i think hes old enough to wmatch the age of Kagami Uchiha.

And for Orbito, he may be him, or the original Tobi helped and he somehow became the next Tobi but that would be impossible since Tobi is old and Orbito would be the same age as Kakashi.

YES! still remains a mystery, sorry if i said some wrong facts but im working on from what i can remember far back :L

Story logic guys.
We cant really guess who he might be based on the current information, but you can try and guess the path the writers may take the story.

The tale can go one of three ways:

1. We end up with Tobi being revealed as a vanilla character we have only briefly encountered possibly indirectly, and thus know very little about.
This makes it easier to write the character in to the script so to speak, but it also requires that the character be created a back story which seems odd at this late stage, and either way, the audience will have very little emotional attachment to the character.
This risks making Tobis big revelation being somewhat anticlimactic.
Kagami, Obito, Shisui, Senju - while they all have very good reasons as being possible, fall under this category, and would possibly also make for a rather dissatisfying final revelation.

2. That the character ends up being a villain we have encountered before and think is out of the picture, someone pulling the strings from behind the scene. We have a back story, and emotional attachment already, all that is required is a clever "reason" for the characters miraculous reappearance.
Most likely candidate for this would be someone like orochimaru, but then, I cant remember any other worthwhile villains, so I might be missing one. He does lack the age factor, but possesses spacial techniques, and character traits that are similar to Tobi (people are more "parts" for his plans rather than any sort of comrade).

3. Lastly we have the "betrayed by someone we trusted" scenario. Same as with the second scenario, we have already been introduced to the character and have an emotional attachment to them, we dont need too much back story (only the "reason" for the betrayal). All that is then required is that they be written in to the story again.
Most likely candidates for this scenario are either Sasuke or the Third Hokage ("death" is pretty easily re-written, all we then need is a reason).

I guess thinking on it, there is a fourth scenario, in which Tobi is not a "Who", but a "What". But that opens far too many doors and is unlikely to be explored.

Or at any rate, if I were writing it, those were the three most probable scenarios I would be looking at.

It cant be Shisui... because remember that Danzo took one of his Eyes.. and Itachi took the other one... His special justu was to imprint things into peoples minds (Inception O: ) ...

I agree with sakura's above post, i think it may turn out to be Izuna also... Kagami and Shisui are about the only other Uchiha possibilities i can think of. Some people have been saying he might not be Uchiha at all... but then why would he use an Uchiha fan and have the Uchiha symbol on his new coat? Hmmmm...

^That is really true XD it could be anyone, and seeing as kabuto is a medical ninja and all, its not like they don't have anyone to do the swapping

another theory is that there's some sort of jutsu that would make spirits able to possess other people or corpses, and maybe he wears a mask so no one recognises the body he's controlling, because madaras spirit has possessed different people
the reason i say different people is because when we first hear Tobi's voice is just after Sasori died, and it sounded quite young and cute, but when he is talking to sasuke underground, it sounds really low and old... could it be different people...?

Well, it hasnt been confirmed as Orochi - Sasuke only said he was going to speak to Orochi, not that Tobi was in fact him.

It is still possible that I am not going to get to do the "I told you so" dance.

Even if it is Orochimaru, (Which it could be) then think about this:
Tobi and Orochimaru don't look alot alike- and even if he can do hat soul switching thingy that he did once and was gonna do with Sasuke, doesn't it take like 3 or 4 years? so then he couldn't just switch back and forth whenever he wanted to be someone different.
Also we have the original tobi voice, the later on tobi voice and then the orochimaru voice? WTH!?
I mean I guess it also almost makes sense, because Orochimaru has all these experiments and jutsus that he can use to be the ultimate tobi, plus because I'm pretty sure he was in alliance with Danzou, he could have done something with those Sharingans ect...
