This show is sad.

But so ludricrously funny at the same time!

And Kamina = Win.

What does everyone else think of it?

And did anyone else cry during episode 8? T_T

It is not sad!! XD For some reason, I love it so damn much. It's like...An absolutely stereotypical anime, but at the same time it has this unknown element of awesome that compels me.

I would have cried in episode 8, but Lavi spoiled it for me because we're watching it together, so the effect wasn't nearly as devastating. XD

I kinda froze up in shock during episode 8 and then proceeded to scream out NOOOOO! at the end.

Gurren Lagann was an epic series, and perfect to watch without needing to pay one's full attention in order to fully appreciate it. It's just simply put mindless fun. I love this series to bits, not as much as I love Code Geass, but it's one of my most fandomed series. I have no idea where you get sad from it, like asides from ep 8 and probably ep 24-25 the show is just complete and utter crazy fun.

And yes, Kamina is just made of freaking epic awesome win. And so is Simon..... after a while. I also like Viral, I just wish his clothes in space arc were better, although I think that for every other character.

The last episode due to the big epic fight between Anti-Spiral and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. I loved how everyone piloted it.

Yeah. That was sooo cool when Nia and Simon finally killed the anti-spiral with just the Lagann. x3

(The ending minutes of that episode made me sad, though. T_T)

I loved the final episode. For some reason when I was watching this series I always had to have the volume up full, or it wasn't epic enough.

I really enjoyed this series! and would have to rate it as one of the best I have seen.

After episode 8 I sort of slacked off around 15 and didn't watch it for a long time. Then my friend took it home by mistake so I couldn't watch it. When I did get it back I thought it would at least take a couple of days for me to finish it and then I actually finished it all in that night. It was so good.

I was so sad in episode 8 and then I got kinda fond of Kittan

Well the dub cast of Gurren Lagann got announced..... again since this time round, Bandai thought they could have a shot at releasing it since ADV lost the license.

The dub cast is as follows:

Kamina: Kyle Hebert
Yoko: Michelle Ruff
Viral: Sam Riegel (sometimes credited as Sam Regal)
Rossiu: Johnny Yong Bosch
Kittan: Christopher Smith
Leeron: Steven Jay Blum
Nia: Hynden Walch
Kiyoh: Karen Strassman
Kinnon: Stephanie Sheh

My first thought was who voices Kamina, I look up Kyle Herbert on ANN and I see he voices Kiba in Naruto and Aizen in Bleach, having heard neither of these voices I have no opinion. Except I fear he would sound as manly as he should. I only wish he was voiced by Jason Douglas who did a magnificent role as Louie in Louie the Rune Soldier (an awesome series that you should all watch) who shares the same japanese voice as Kamina.

Hynden Walch as Nia is just perfect, I mean all she needs to do is use Starfire's voice and she has the whole thing nailed.

Steven Jay Blum as Leeron...... I'm interested in hearing it to say the least, since Steven Jay Blum voices the most manly and badass characters in the series he's in, now he's voicing the most blatantly gay character this series has to offer.

Yuri Lowenthal as Simon, he'll at the very least get eps 9 - 11 done right due to the angst and we all know Yuri has been typecast as the emo character. I personally think he'll be able to pull off a good job.

JYB as Rossiu, you know, it's going to be hard to like JYB soon, for one he's in everything, for two, he's done a pretty poor job as Lelouch from what I've noted in the Geass dub and for three, he's now voicing Rossiu, quite possibly the most hated character in the series. I miss his days as Vash the Stampede.

I spazzed so much when I found out that Steve Blum's voicing Leeron. x3

I was really hoping he'd be in the series... But gawd, that's the weirdest role they could've given him (I had thought previously, if he was in it, he could be Lord Genome or Kittan), and I really look forward to hearing him in it.

And JYB being Rossiu? Works for me! <3

Oh, and I couldn't imagine a more perfect voice for Nia.

I had a REALLY REALLY bad encounter with dubs.... *shudder*

Anyways! I'm still halfway through the series! Why does GAINAX make these awesome shows....? Hey hey, you know the seiyuu for Shimon/Simon? He knows how to speak German! Flawlessly! ^o^ After all, he did Bardiche in Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha!!!!

Okay, I just listened to snippets of the dubs...

Kamina sounds a bit too high-pitched, and not quite energetic enough, but not too bad.

Simon is spot on, same with Nia.

Viral's dub voice = <3333

And Steve Blum does the best flamboyant, gay man voice I have ever heard. x3 He's the perfect Leeron!

Kittan sounds a little too soft, and could've done with a rougher tone.

And Yoko... Average, not too good, not too bad, kinda generic, but Yoko always was, anyway.

My thoughts on the dub,

Kamina doesn't quite have the same edge to the original voice. I think my biggest urk though was when he said Team Red rather than Gurren Brigade, it's a proper translation but you'd think when the main mech of the series is the GURREN-Lagann, they'd keep the Gurren in Gurren Brigade as Gurren rather than Red or Crimson. Otherwise, he's not bad at all.

Viral also doesn't have the same edge to him as he did in the japanese version. No other comments can be made from the clip they used.

Kittan I like, I thought it basically sounded the same, Yoko also had a good match, Leeron on the otherhand doesn't sound the same, however Steven Jay Blum did do an awesome job on him just like how Liam O'Brian does a great voice for Lloyd (not the same, but is good in its own right and gives it a new spin in the same direction if you get what I mean)

However Nia hits the freaking nail on the head. I thought I was listening to the same clip when the japanese comparison clip played. Simon oddly enough never got his own comparison clip, however showed up in a number of them, to which I got a decent sample of the voice. I also think he'll do a good job.

I'm absolutely fine with dubs, but when one of my favourite characters voice actors puts no effort into even being slightly close to the character he's trying to portray it makes me frustrated.

My favorite piece of the show is, personally, when Kamina is still alive.

I love the rest, but Kamina was so vibrant and lively that the story was just a rollercoaster ride of epic.
