Anyone know this anime/manga?

| Hey guys a friend of mine rememberse an anime/manga from about 10 years ago but cant actually remember what its called :/
This is all he remembers:
Its about a kid who rides round in a mechanical dragon medic unit and he can transform into a warrior in red armour wielding a spear, and he travels with a girl.
I know its not really much to go on, but does anyone have any ideas?
