What I always use to make a kimono is this site here.

Scroll about halfway down and you've got the pattern/sewing instructions. It's got step-by-step pictures as well as instructions and while the pattern isn't perfect (the sleeves, for example) the step-by-step is really good and the pictures give a good indication of what you want to do, how you want to sew it and how much fabric you want.
