Green Hair + Cosplay n00b = O_O

OK, so I am going to be doing my first cosplay :) and it is likely going to be Yotsuba. If you don't know who yotsuba is, here is a picture;

Green Hair + Cosplay n00b = O_O Yotsuba

She has 4 ponytails that are green.

Yeah well, I can get the rest of her clothes, but the green hair, its killing me Razz

I don't want my first cosplay to be expensive. How do I get green hair? I have brown hair with blond streaks added via hairdresser and don't want to mess that up with dye. I'd prefer to dye my hair, but don't want to hurt it or risk ruining my hair colour. I'd buy a wig, but I don't want it to be uber expensive, nor do I know where to get a good one! Any tips for a cosplay n00b?

YAAAAY!!! I love Yotsuba!!! That's gonna be awesome!!!

I think it might be difficult to find green non-permanent hair dye; my friend uses this semi-permanent stuff to dye her hair but you need to bleach your hair first for it to work properly. Plus it lasts about two months.
You'd probably be better off going with a wig, it might end up being cheaper than dyeing anyway.
I saw a short bright green wig in Cosmic Corner (Cashel St) the other day - I think it was about $20. At that price it probably won't be really good quality, but I don't think it will matter too much with a short hairstyle.

Thats OK, and I honestly forgot about the water pistol. I was definitely going to carry around sunflowers nyahaha

the hair will be the most expensive but a really important feature. I'm thinking up to $50.

There's actually heaps of characters with shortish green hair, but unfortunately they're all ridiculously obscure. D:

Having dyed my hair green. I say buy a wig.
It's cheaper.
Your hair would go a murky green with green highlights. To get it a nice pretty green you would have to bleach it (which is expensive, especially if you get it done professionally). But if you are really determined I recommend Manic Panic =]

I second this. My sister and I had matching turquoisey-green hair a few years back, and hers faded to khaki while mine went a gorgeous shade of diarrhoea green. We were blonde and brunette respectively, if that helps.

You can get cheap blonding kits from foodtown($10-$15)
That's what i use to bleach hair.
I dye my hair constantly and bleach it, my hairs pretty strong and it's never been damaged by bleaching, but manic panic is expensive, and you usually dont get the results you want. I recommend paintbox. You can find it at most rodney wayne hair salons and it's only $20

Oh, oh yeah -- I get my wigs from various stores on ebay...If you can find the right ones where the postage doesn't cost a squillion dollars, you could probably find a decent green wig at around NZD $30-50 including postage.
Especially if it's not mega-long like the two I just purchased...*stares folornly into empty wallet*

Off-topic, but Re-l, which colours of paintbox have you used, and how long did they last? Did you bleach yours first? If not, what colour was your hair before you did it? I'm using a mixture of cherry and chilli (I think those are the two colours) for my Rosso cosplay, and I was wondering how long I'd be a redhead for. XD

Paintbox, huh? I've never heard of it. But I am dying my hair in a few months so maybe I will try it out. I've always got quite good results with Manic Panic. It makes my hair feel nice.
It's strange... I think home bleach kits are better than salons sometimes. The only time I got my hair bleached professionally it got really damaged. When I did it myself it turned out much less damaged. I guess they use stronger stuff in the salons.
