Moogle cakes or cupcakes? By VeganPirate. 31/05/11, 03:36 am |
| Hello all :)
I'm looking at making either moogle cupcakes or a moogle cake for my friends 21st. She's a huge final fantasy fan. I'd use the Kingdom Hearts moogle as my template (cause im a huge KH Fan, and its nice and simple).
I'm tossing up between a whole moogle cake, a moogle head cake, or lots of moogle head cupcake. A quick google search will show how cool the cupcakes look. But im thinking if i make a cake, i could use a red sparkler as the pom pom, and it would make it more birthday cakey and exciting.
What are you guys views? And if you have any idea, would be much appreciated :) |

| I think the cupcakes are cutest - then everyone can have their own Moogle cake! and maybe make your friends one with a sparkler or candle, so its special ? but I think a cake would look just as awesome ! |

| Things to take into consideration: Time - Icing cupcakes can take a long time, even more so when the decorating is something detailed. If time is an issue consider what will look best and remember simple is always better! Recipe - pick a recipe you've make before and one that tastes nice. Icing - are you planning on using a fondant or pipe a normal icing sugar icing on it? (or another thing~) Depending on what you choose it will be easier to do a cake or cupcake. Make a practice one - whether you choose to make a cake or cupcake, make sure you do a rough pratice (even a small pratice) of the desgin. it'll give you more of an idea about what works best for you and help you to know how much time it'll take to complete~
Personally i would do make cake. It'll be easier to make a larger design and will look that little bit better. then again I kinda do just fail at cupcakes in general
I might be going a bit to much into it, but I think you have a great idea! Hope it goes well what ever you choose. Maybe once you've made them take a pic and put in the thread? I'd love to see the finished product ^_^

| My motivation for cupcakes over cake is usually that if you screw up the cake, tough tits. If you screw up one cupcake, you chuck it and move on to the next. Cupcake stands can look really impressive too (I made a cupcake wedding cake for friends once).
There's always also arranging cupcakes into the shape of a Moogle and decorating them like that, as a whole entity? I'm personally a really big fan of cupcakes: they're easier to serve, they're cute, everybody gets their own cake, you get to pick out casings, and they tend to cook more quickly.
What icing were you planning to use? And we'd better be getting pictures of the end result. |

I wonder if you'd be able to take a pic of the cake when you are done, if possible? I really wanna see what the finished product looks like |

Birthdays not till the 18th, so you'll have to wait a couple of weeks. |

| Those over-sized Jaffas or some other large red candy? Perhaps a cherry or raspberry depending on your flavouring and icing? A cherry would have the stalk part too, but I don't know that it would support the weight....
On a cake maybe an apple? Twizzler candy / raspberry liquorice with something at the end? Coloured fondant?

| Just an update. Have made and cut the cake. Pic below. I haven't iced it yet, and have yet to do the pom pom ears and eyes. It will be completed on Saturday, so expect a pic around 6pm.
It is a mud cake and my very own recipe i made from scratch. And vegan :)

| That is a beautiful piece of work.
But I suppose the important question is how does it taste? |
