JUL: Midwinter Christmas 2010

Hey folks, do we want to have a Christmas party this year? I have decorations and everything in storage, so pretty easy to host one. the only question in my mind at this stage is whether or not people are keen, and whether or not we want to have something low key at my house or somewhere, or hire a hall and have either an all day event or a sleep over.

When: Saturday 10th of July, 1pm - 9pm
Where: St Michaels School Hall, Cnr Tuam st and Durham St
Cost: $5
(to cover food, decorations and venue hire - any remainer will return to the Christchurch Cosplay Club)
Please bring:

* A plate of food
* A present for the present game if you want to play. Spending limit is $5, gifts less then that and home made are also fine.

NOTE: With the present game it doesn't have to be expensive to be a worthwhile present. I've noticed at a few events people aren't making the effort to find a good present. A pile of coins is not a good present. Please think about giving something you would be pleased to receive as a gift. If you're stuck for ideas, browse a few doller stores, or look at what presents people have bought in the past.

I like the idea of an all day party. It's better for those who aren't allowed out late, and it means we won't be completely sleep deprived (due to awesome fun) the next day.

i reckon that if we are in a hall we should have anime/movies playing at one end, and maybe games and socialising at the other end??

I have an exam on the 26th of June, so wouldn't be able to come during the day.
The 48 hour cosplay challenge is on this weekend as well.

I'm happy whether it's a day party or a night party! ^^ I wouldn't be staying the night if it was sleepover, but I'd definitely be there for a few hours to chillax with everyone. :3

Day party would probably be from 1pm to 9pm, enough time to get setup, and it's after lunch so we just have to sort out dinner for everyone :)

Otherwise we could do 11am to 7pm or something?

Maybe we should come up with some games this time so that we are better prepared in that sense, this time around.

Couldn't really decide what to vote for on the poll so went with the whole day party, because as much as I love the sleepovers, I don't really get much sleep at them. sweatdrop

There is the pheonix movie night the weekend before, and I want to do something big, possibly similar, but different, (or maybe somethign else) on the 17th for my birthday. Also DO on the 24th. So this seems like the best weekend.

So, times ar 1-9pm, lets start working out what we want to do during that time. Here is a very rough suggestion, let me know what you guys want to do.

have lunch before you come

1.00pm - arrive and mingle and have snacks while playing consles.
1.30pm - Christmas Tree Race
2:00pm - Santa's Toy Factory
2:30pm - rest
3.30pm - Christmas themed Photo Scavenger Hunt in the city?
4:30pm - finish and rest
5:00pm - Shared Dinner (everyone bring a plate)
6:00pm - Present Game
7:00pm - rest
7:30pm - Activity
8:00pm - Activity
8:30pm - Wrap up

A brief google of christmas activites and the last two are ones I thought up myself (let me know what ones you like the sound of and if you have any to suggest)

Rudolph Dash
How To Play: Have each person put Vaseline on their nose and then put the red circles on their nose. Relay race to the finish with each new person adding their red nose. If nose falls, go back to bowl and add more Vaseline and reapply nose.

Fill the Christmas Stocking
How To Play: Divide into teams. Have children line up at one end of the room. At the other end, hang a Christmas stocking for each team. Place a bowl of candy and a spoon in front of each team. Each child takes a turn taking a candy from the bowl with the spoon. They then carry the candy on the spoon to the stocking and drop the candy in the stocking. Race back to the next person in line, give them the spoon. First team to fill the stocking wins! (and gets to eat the candy)

Santa's Toy Factory
Even Teams have 4 or 5 boxes to wrap with wrapping paper. The first team to finish wrapping starts the count down timer of 2minutes. After those two minutes are up, all teams with all their parcles wrapped are judged on their wrapping skills. The most well wrapped presents (out of those that finished within the time limit) win the game.

Christmas Tree Race
Teams have 5 christmas trees and a supply of decorations to decorate their trees with. The first team to finish setting up their christmas tree and use up all their decorations score 10 points, All teams score 5points for each tree that is well decorated and well placed
