Questions from an Auckland noob

Well i'm not from Auckland (i'm in Wanganui). I've been to wellygeddon a few times, but not to the Auckland one. So this year i've decided i'm gonna go there! Basicly I have a couple of problems. Getting there is cool and everything, but first off, I'm not going to know anyone, have nowhere to stay (currently, depends if any of the people i know are going to be there or still at uni), and it will be the first time i've ever cosplayed. I'm thinking of going as either Ichigo from Bleach, or Monkey D.Luffy (but i'm open to sugestions!) . If anyone can help me with any of these, either reply on here, or drop a message on either:

Well~ there is usually a lot of cosplayers from all over NZ that come to Auckland, and they organise booking into the motels across the road from the venue together. Maybe you could join in with them :)

We have had great accommodation thread(s) in the past. I once organised over 20 people for one booking.

Since people mostly know where to stay now, who they want to go with, etc, it seems like people have stopped doing this now, and arrange things privately. I mean you want to book with people who have the same attitude to staying up all night or going to bed, right?

There are a few places, but then without enough people for a larger room you are stuck paying individual room rates. And the cheaper option of a bunk in a shared backpackers room is probably out because you need to store your costumes/props/gear for a few days while you are at the con, without breakages/thieving. And because of the Rugby World Cup and Geddon some places are booking up fast.

Bleach. Probably be bleach characters every day. Often a Luffy cosplayer or two over the con. I usually do Zoro, but will try to have something different this year. Go for it.

Thanks man, some real good advice there. Due to my one piece addiction atm, i'll probably go luffy i'd say. but yea, i forgot about the rugby world cup being around the same time (sorry to any rugby fans, it's just honestly not my thing at all). That would create problems with bookings. I do know a couple of people in Auckland, so hopefully one of them will lend me some floor space haha

Do both. You have up to four days this year. So if you go to all four you could do four costumes easily, if you can fit them in your luggage.

Also just be wary of travel times (and cost) to and from the venue, depending on where they live. It ends up being a very tiring event. Although saving $30-40 a night may be worth it?

This is awkward XD yea i went to WHS, and we talked a couple of times back on bebo years ago. i even follow you on DeviantArt haha (you also gave me a llama badge today!). But we've never met in person nope. I saw your journal entry about accommodation and stuff, but it said not to bother if i don't know you in RL, which technicly i don't...

Haha yeah, Wanganui...there are some other cosplayers there, but the number is small. There's quite a few here in Palmy though, and a few in between. Thankfully this forum exists so we can actually find each other! Are you moving to Auckland? Pleeenty of cosplayers up there Very Happy

yea, haven't managed to find any in Wanganui yet. I bet palmy would yea. And yup, I'm wanting to study animation in Auckland next year. I did film and theatre at vic uni last year, but i just didn't like it that much. So I'm working back home to save for next year. Only problem is that most of my pay has gone on anime dvds instead, and now armageddon
