Cosplayer Photography By JudasNZ. 01/04/11, 12:59 am |
| Hi everyone I have been working with both the Judges and Armageddon organisers to be able to offer this. I've enlisted the help of a work colleague, and between us we want to have some fun and offer you all the chance to get studio level shots of your creations.
We also can get outside to do some more freestyle shots weather dependant. Waterfront, Frank Kitts, there's a few good places.
At this stage, we're looking to set up a photo area upstairs, hopefully within easy walking distance of the judging and changing areas (i.e. flat, so you don't have stairs to navigate). There are 4 slots of time I have currently assigned - (Saturday) 11.30 to 12.30, (Saturday) 1.30 to 2.30, (Sunday) 10.15 to 11.15, (Sunday) 1.30 to 2.30. Hoping to take delivery of a new backdrop/stand/lighting kit today :)
Let me know if you're keen to have shots for yourself/group, I expect each person/group through to be about 10-15 minutes of time. Not after a strict schedule, just helps frame the day and work effort at each slot.
After the event, we'll post up the photos to flickr, so you can grab a copy and keep for your records/facebook/forum avatar/etc. The only thing Rex and I ask is that no-one sell or publish photos commercially without coming back to us first. We're doing this for practice and the fun of it.
See you at Armageddon! |

Re: Cosplayer Photography By JudasNZ. 01/04/11, 02:04 am |
| Also recommend reading the cosplay photography section for extra tips - it's an excellent help to both the cosplayer and the photographer
Static's comments I think are especially true, and I remember reading another great post on one of the overseas forums. Sleep and makeup were the other things recommended.

| (Copy pasta from the geddon forums, cuz I use these ones more often anyway)
I would love to take you up on this on Sunday at the very least - probably saturday too, if the rest of the Digimon group is keen. What's the maximum group size you're willing to shoot, and do you want us to prebook timeslots or can we just turn up during one of timeslots? |

Re: Cosplayer Photography By JudasNZ. 01/04/11, 05:30 am |
| I think if people turn up we should be able to cope. Keep in mind there's 4 slots, so if it looks like a mad rush, remember that we'll be around for more. I guess I could keep a book so people can note a contact number - if it runs over, there's a bit of flex in the timetable and could stay longer or come find your group.
Maximum group size - on a background, likely 3-5 people if it's a tight shot (close up on faces), 1-3 people going to the wider/laying down/etc type shots. The backdrop will be about 2.8m wide, and falls from 2m to a length of 7m in total. So about a 2.5m area to step onto at the front.
We can shoot: wide (normally camera <.5m from you, exaggerated perspectives) - 20mm wide medium full body (50mm, from about 2m away) close up (portait/top half, 100mm to 200mm zoom from 2m+ away)
I'm yet to determine lighting/flash arrangement, as I haven't found exactly where we'll set up. But likely a fill flash or steady light at 60% on the bulk of the costume, 100% flash on face. If I get power we'll likely use constant lighting, as it saves on $$$ for batteries :) |

Re: Cosplayer Photography By neimhaille. 01/04/11, 05:49 am |
| yep we'll be organising a walk about to see where it can all go :)
I definitely want a couple of photos :)
As far as I know there will be someone near the info booth with contest and parade info, so there should be room for either sign up sheets for this or to be told where to go look see :) |

| No, static does individual roaming shoots of her own, not backdrop shots like this. :) Besides, the more photos, the better! |

Are you using Umbrellas or a Dish? Good luck on the whole thing. |

| Lighting will be either natural + reflector panel + flash, or umbrella's/lighting + flash. Also depends if I can find an unguarded power outlet :) |
