May 1st Protests? By sora-roxas-ven. 27/04/11, 09:22 am |
| Not really a cosplay meet, but it's in Auckland and I was gonna go. If no one else from cnz turns up, I will be so disappoint.

| Sunday? I have assignments to do.. (not that I'll actually end up working on them but it makes me feel better.)
...I shall have to seeeeeeee~ but i'm not sure what arguements we can offer as opposers of the bill ;w;" I mean.. it kinda sounds like we're all for piracy and if that's how the government sees it , then the protest is not gonna work.. ;___;" |

But this bill is mostly to detour people from file sharing... although you can still do it and go undetected .. ...if you know how ;p |

| The thing that bothers me about it is that no one making a significant impact on the music/film industry by pirating will be caught, because they have the basic computer knowledge needed to circumvent the law. And the guilty-before-innocent part. |

| i defo agree with you on that ....
it was also extremely sneaky of them to pass the bill when christchurch was under siege (so to speak .. ) .. as they wouldnt be opposed by as many other MP's |

| Iunno, I mean lets face it, they had to pass the law in a sneaky manner because they already knew it would fail. This kinda tells me that they WANT and thus INTENDED to pass the law, and that asking the population is really just a courtesy. They havent really done much to "change" it, just added some more big fancy words that pretty much mean the same thing.
Which kinda leads me to conclude that we can all dance naked in Aotera square, and dearest old Jon key or whoever is important is going to go "Oh, look, protesters, thats nice (but I dont really care, the funds generated from this venture are going to net me a new BMW!!)".
Ill see how bored I am, who knows, at the very least, it might be entertaining. |

| Piracy is illegal. I agree piracy is bad. Guilty until proven innocent is wrong. It is so very, very wrong. |

| ^ Guilty until proven innocent..is that not what the majority of protesters are angry is about ..regarding this bill?
it is defo unfair...
(a friend of mine suggested accusing multiple people and seeing how they cope with a large quantity of requests (idk if thats the right word to use), working similar to a DDOS attack) |

| The one problem with that is if they go through with our accusations. That wouldn't be good :\ Let's not 4chan the NZ government please. I'm not sure it'll end well. |

Re: May 1st Protests? By Kitten Slave. 28/04/11, 12:34 am |
| Well, I had considered getting the list of important people who decided to pass this law and then accusing them all of downloading.
But cheah, yesterday I spend about 10 minutes actually reading the bill. By the looks of it, the Owner of the material in question needs to make the accusation as well as supply the IP of the offending downloader to the respective ISP who then need to match it with the offender, and then send the "infringement" notice.
They have used a lot of fancy words as usual, but it looks a bit like someone just covering their butt.
Hey, I could be wrong. Anyone here a law student with a hell of a lot of patience who has read this waffle?

Re: May 1st Protests? By lil-craka. 28/04/11, 01:04 am |
| ^yeah i did read an article that pretty much summed it up, and i was under the same impression (that the Owner of the material was to make the accusation).
EDIT: i am not a law student >.< (just thought i'd cover all bases)
