A Question about the Competition By Rikki-Leigh. 04/11/08, 10:07 am |
| So. I'm entering next year as Umbreon. I'm making the entire thing from scratch and will only be entering technical.
My one question is would I still be able to enter technical if I use ears and a tail made by someone else? |

| Moved to the cosplay:general discussion forum. :)
I would say so, as long as the rest (75%) of the costume is made by yourself. Depending on how elaborate said ears and tail are and how many other elements make up the costume however, I would recommend having a go making them yourself - it'll be more fun & accurate as well!
If the ears and tail you buy are super complicated and intricate, and the rest of the costume is just a simple tank top and skirt, then I'd recommend not buying ears and tail and making them. But if the rest of the costume is heavily embroidered and amazing, with very simple ears and tail, then by all means get them.
Of course, you'd need to get this all confirmed: this is just my thoughts on the matter. 8D |

| Yes. You can enter a costume made entirely by somebody else as long as you give credit - I do it most years with comissions. |

| Haha. Shot. I couldn't work out where it would go.
Hahaha. The ears and tails I'm stealing of syn. The outfit is... going to cost me a lot and use a LOT of material. Hence why I'm entering it. And hence why I'm asking for money for material for christmas from most of my relatives. |

| No, commissions are not allowed- it should be clear but this is one rule that is being made in bold (it was definitely in the rules this year). - Quote :
- 3) You must be the maker of the majority of your costume. If you received help this should be mentioned in your registration form. As a rough guide more than 70% of your costumes and props must be made or heavily adapted by members of your group. No commissions.
In the past it has been allowed so we have eased that out slowly. Help is allowed, that is different. I have not accepted any costumes that were declared as commissions and if any did get through (usually because of the historical Saturday hand ins) they were not in running for a prize- except skit for a while. To help this be clearer I am taking a month to rewrite the rules to make them clearer and thus fairer for every single person entering. It is a contest. They will also be printed so that everyone filling out a form will have to read them be it online or in person. Also part of the issue is my formatting did not get through, so I will be asking if I can write the code for the text section of the page, it should be fine.
If you are able to get advice from the person you are looking at making them and can be involved in the process that is much more in the spirit of the "did you get any help" question. Otherwise cosplay.com is a fantastic source for information or hints and tips and really getting inspiration on how to do things. Also ask here, there have been some great advice and links provided here on how to make things frm what we can get locally or via the internet. |

| So, if a friend helped you make certain parts, it would be okay? Just no money changing hands or anything? |

Yep :) As we have had many groups/people who have worked on costumes or props together, and they are mentioned in helping. |
