How much fabric? By Guest. 19/02/11, 09:56 am |

I'm making this Kimono of Himawaris, and as payment for a commission they are paying for the fabric for this. I already know what fabric to buy, it's just a matter of how much? I'm 156cm, so I'm quite short, and I'm getting white fabric and lining with the pink. So suggestions as to how much fabric to buy? |

| Uh... if I gave a guess, at least 4m? That seems like heaps, but I use 2 on a plain jacket. I think the rule is your length x2 for fabric, but probably extra if you're kimono's... drapey? Is that a word? Anyway, I would say about 5 metres... if you're lining it, then 5m of the lining too |

| So 5 metres lining, 5 metres for the rest of it. That would work. And I use 2 metres + another 2 for lining for jackets as well. |

| If you're doing them as furisode sleeves (long ones) then use this equation: 2x(shoulder to bottom of kimono length) + 2x(vertical length of sleeve - from top to bottom)
If you're doing them as normal sleeves then use this equation: 2x(shoulder to bottom of kimono length) + 2x(horizontal length of sleeve - from shoulder to wrist/wherever you want it to end)
Lining fabric is the same amount as the outer fabric again. |

| Have a read through Taeliac's tutorial on DevArt - it's really easy to follow, and it's what I always use with a few minor alterations. |
