Sharpie dying wigs black? By Guest. 04/03/11, 11:16 am |
| - Spoiler:
CCKids on Taobao just released this himawari wig and I HAVE to have it. Only problem is they have made it dark brown instead of black. I'll email them to try get it made in black, but I was wondering if it was possible to dye it black with the sharpie method? I hear alot of people have had problems with this, so I thought I'd ask you guys for advice. Cheers <3

| OOH i was going to buy this one sometime this year XD
or you can just look for one in black or if they dont have curled ones you always get straight ones and curl it yourself...
sharpie is fine but only when you are drawing patterns on the wig (thats what they did in one of my cosmode magzines, and then you also had to spray the wig with something to keep the marker on)
it'll be really hard if you are colouring the whole wig...>.>|||

| From what I've heard, sharpie dyeing doesn't work with black. I can't say I've tried it, but I read somewhere that because the black ink is actually made up of a multitude of different colours, it just, well, fails. |

| Pishaaww. I sharpie dyed a brown/blue/blonde mix wig black. What are these people talking about?
I assume it would work as long as you didn't wash it xDD. I think hairspray makes it come out, but not enough to make a difference, imo. (Other than black hands, lol) |

| ^Seriously? hope is restored <3
I wouldn't have minded if the wig was just for Himawari but I'm using the base wig for Anri, so I want it black. I shall give it a go (= |

| ooh i got the scans...they were making a wig for a character from D.Gray Man (dont remember his name... -___-||| )...i think its Justebi?
they sprayed the wig with hard hair spray first, then used black copic marker to draw one the pattern and sprayed the whole wig with hard hair spray again.
hope that helps

| the thing with sharpie dying something black is that a black sharpie is really a really dark purple so results may vary? another way you could try is dying with paint and rubbing alcohol? think azeria used this for her patamon wig.. |

| You have to use quite a few sharpies to get a really heavy black, and it's not completely colourfast. I think when I did a wig a bit shorter than that it took, like, five.
Also depends on what fiber it's made of--some of the better ones are impossible to sharpie-dye. |

| I sharpie dyed a wig from brown -> black for someone last year and it sort of worked? Up close it still looked brown, under certain lights it looked brown but otherwise it looked pretty black. The only issue I had with it was that it looked reaaaaaaaally shiny. (and it got ink all over my hands)
The wig I used was cheapish (? it wasn't mine but it felt cheapish) |

The wig I used was cheapish (? it wasn't mine but it felt cheapish) This was for me at NZAE as I recall, and yeah, it was definitely suboptimal. I hated that wig with a passion actually, but Riven did a really good job to get it as good as it was. Sharpie dying is absolutely not something I would recommend. |
