First timer for selling art at Overload
Post By catnes555. 02/03/11, 03:57 am

Hey guys~
I know Overload is quite a way away,(I'm working on my Overload art for my Impact project in school //sneak sneak)
But its my first time selling at for Overload, and I was wondering how should I price my art?
Is there some sort of site that has base prices on it?

Prices for things like -
Keychains
Prints
Bookmarks
Pin badges

Also I was wondering, in the regestration form it says "Exhibitors who book an 'Overload Table' are permitted to ONLY sell the following types of
items"
I want to sell stickers, but they are not in the list, so I can't sell them? D:

Is there anything I should look out for? Like where to put my prices?

sweatdrop Advice would be greatly appreciated~!

Stickers are okay.

You can price them whatever. People think its based on the "quality" of their art. There were some A3 posters ranging from as little as $2 to $15.

You should also aim for making things like artbooks and manga.

A4 prints usually are like $3-5? A3 $8-10? Thats what its usually like? Factors like skill in art come into play too.... You can like lower the prices during the time if you think they are selling well o.O I thinks thats what Im going with >.< Keychains and bookmarks probably like $2 and less but Ive heard quite a lot of complaint about those being sold and such |DD;; Badges $1?

^this seems abnormally cheap for artwork. A coloured print of A4 that was even $20 I would consider cheap. People draw outside my school (just quick pencil sketches) and they often sell upwards of $40.

Ok, if we are taking prices then this gets a bit complicated.

For the things you are wanting to print, the thing you need to consider right now is WHERE YOU CAN PRINT THEM and HOW MUCH WILL THEY COST YOU. It is extremely costly to do them in small batches unless you have a machine yourself so the question of WILL YOU BE ABLE TO SELL ALL OF YOUR PRODUCTS also come into play.

Again, the merchandise such as keychains and pins are extremely expensive to get done in small batches, so definitely go and ask friends to group order. If you can get friends that can access Taobao, do it. Printing would be slightly cheaper but again, you need to find a good source. I remember 3A printed A3 posters for my friends at IG for $1 each at a very good quality, but they printed hundreds of posters. Again, group order.= =

Now, the pricing. you need to not only evaluate HOW GOOD YOUR ART IS but also at the other artist's prices. $40 dollar posters are absolutely almost impossible to pull off in the NZ doujin scene, DEFINITELY impossible at DO, as there will ALWAYS be better artists selling their stuff at a fifth of your price. LOL.

so I say keep the printing cheap and go for the "fun first profit second" approach. For your art I suggest $6 A3 posters, $4 A4 posters AT LEAST. or else it's hard to break even. The other merchandise depends on how much you can get them done for.

If you have questions just FB me, yea?
