It was fun, it was very small, but as I didn't go to Wellington I can't say much else. XD

I'm pretty sure that the You Tube links of winners and such will be put up on Zeb's site/PulpExpo/other nz anime related site later on, as they did ask for them, so you can see for yourself soon. :) It was basically Naruto and Bleach fighting stuff, which had good transitions.

Cosplay went well. :) For such a small convention, there were a LOT of cosplayers, and the Bleach group was so EPIC! ^_____^ It was amazing, kudos to seraphik for organising it all~! (On both the Saturday and Sun) and our KH group (the group that never was, y'all) received a placing, which makes me really happy! But wow, there was some tough competiton, the cosplay bar in NZ has really levelled up, it's so awesome to see~ So yeah, major congrats to everyone who entered, all your costumes where super spiffy!

1st place was good timing and stuff, but kind of pointless. =\ I couldn't really see anything behind it - it was just clips spliced together. 2nd Place I like, but some shots were maybe too long/too similar. 3rd - well, you've already heard my opinion on that, lol.

Thanks for putting those links up, by the way - I've been curious. Very Happy

... Ugh, the more I watch the one that won at CHCHgeddon, the more I dislike it.

I have so much more I could negatively rant about to do with it, but I'll save negative ranting for the rants thread.

*hits Pyro* Get it together! Your amvs are pure awesome and always will be! Don't get discouraged.....please ;.;. Man, I'm useless at making people fell better. No serious though, your amvs are really good. Every amv I have seen just gets better and better and that includes everyone elses too. It's really hard to sound sincere over the internet :3

Only thing is, I don't have any fancy editing programs any more... Which sucks, like, a lot. I also have no money to finance said fancy programs.

All I need is frame-by-frame screenshots of various things, but WMM won't even permit for that, and my laptop itself won't allow screenshots. >>;;

I think everyone develops their own style of amv making and then people view different ones to their own perspective. Just like art sorta. The song choice does a lot for people. I mean I like a good amv, but I enjoy it a lot more if I like the song, but then I don't like lots of colour effects. They blind me XD

Naw, I might stick to the third buddies, cause it just makes me work harder. We might get our arses kicked, but we have a hell of a time trying

I think it flows. At least it has a story and not just random action scenes. I mean you can tell the whole story of your amvs. That has to count for something ^^

Yeah, in a way, AMV making is just like art.
But the main thing is, I guess, with how I'm being so angry with the winner at CHCH, is that not only is it almost all random action, it's shoddily made random action.

There're a lot of clip repeats towards the end, pointless movement repeats, and the song doesn't match the AMV well... It hardly displays anything found in the lyrics, especially considering the song, when you look at the lyrics, is probably about lovers breaking up and/or one of them dying.

... I've found the main thing that ties them together, and that's the fact that the song communicates the pointlessness of the AMV during the bridge.

I have some AMVs for y'all!

Almost all're Crisis Core/Advent Children AMVs, so beware of spoilers.

1. ~Defy~

My quick little Genesis-centric work basically telling of how headstrong he is when fighting Shinra, and how no-one's gonna bring him down- because he's defying gravity, baby.

2. -Don't Fall, Hold On-

AerDaj (GAWD I LOVE THIS PAIRING) AMV which took me a few days to put together. Completely AU, just a bit of fun.

3. Sexy Questions

My single FFX AMV, in which Tidus sings about some things he thinks are sexy to ask people.

A sad AMV about Zack, Cloud and Aeris that I made for BalthierKingofSkiez's Surrender contest. x3 Wish me luck, guys!

Practice DEFINITELY makes perfect, Duckeh.

It's taken me two years to get to the point I am now, and I've still got a long way to go.

The other things I reccommend doing in trying to make good AMVs are...

-Know your songs inside out. My [Bullets] AMV was made after hours pouring over the song to know where the guitars start, where drawn-out notes end... The better you know the song, the better your AMV'll be.

This tip is especially important when trying to use long songs- you have to know when to expend your most eye-catching effects and clips, as you'll be trying to hold the audience's attention for far longer.

-An awesome opening won't help your AMV be good if the song's over 4 minutes long, as the audience will kind of nod off. Know when you're gonna go hardout to try and fix their attention, and when you aren't.

Never tell yourself 'HEY, THEY CAN SIT THROUGH ALL OF THIS, 'CAUSE I'MMA GIVE IT MY ALL', because likely, until you're very good, even the best you do for the video will be wasted effort. Choose moments to take hours on, and when to just try your best with the rest, as if you try and exercise awesome through the entire piece, it's likely to all go bland.

-A good AMV will take you many hours to complete.

Regardless of how nice an AMV you've thrown together in 2 hours may seem, it's the ones you sit, overview every ten minutes (not kidding, I look over my work every ten minutes to check if I still like what I've got), change around HEAPS, and often redo pieces of that'll turn out best.

At least... It'll probably make you feel more fulfilled. xD

-Don't try and copy people's editing styles, it'll just make you look stupid:

Just because Jen goes for a black-and-white, multi-layered, subdued editing style, doesn't mean you can pull it off right.

Likewise, just 'cause I have my effect laden spaz-fest AMVs, which you might think look cool, doesn't make them the be-all-and-end-all editing style.

Find your own style, and your stuff'll be way cooler, man. ^^
