Best (and easiest) way to make a katana sword

For one of my cosplays I need to make a katana sword and I was wondering what the best and easiest way to make it would be as I've never made a prop before ^^;;

I don't have the links here on this computer, but I googled katana sword tutorials and it came up with HEAPS of awesome ones.
Also deviantart and youtube have some really good ones.

Oh and have you checked the CNZ cosplay tutorial database? That also has some very good links~

(when I get my other computer I'll post links, but I do suggest googling because there are MANY ways to make a katana sword)

I've used that tutorial before to make a cleaver. Very Happy

If you have cardboard pieces big enough for the whole length, you won't need to cut it into pieces like the tutorial says. :)

I'd suggest cutting it into pieces anyway. The idea of cutting it into pieces is to help add stability toe the cardboard.
Also, tutorial works =D I used it to make my Yamamoto katakana

I've trawled through the whole topic, and featherweight replied to another guy who asked the same question, and that's what he responded with.
Though, I think the dowel will add enough strength to the katana as long as you don't abuse it.

If you're not happy with your glue gun smoothing, get some baking paper, put it in between your iron on a low-ish setting, and just iron it for a few secs. Wait for it to cool down a little before trying to peel the baking paper off (it's easier once the glue is more solid).
Or you could paint onto poster board and then stick it ont he surface for a nice finish, since cardboard has that stripey-corrugated pattern. :)

Really? I found that tiling the pieces adds some extra stability with the dowel.
