Wig shop reviews **Updated By Guest. 13/04/11, 09:15 am |
| Hi there guys. This is a thread for people to post reviews of wigs they have bought. To start things off I have reivews of 4 wigs from 3 different taobao shops. Contribute if you can c:
Photos of wigs! Left = no flash, right = flash. Wig 1 is Rukia, wig 2 is Luka, wig 3 is black, wig 4 is brown curly. Final pictures are all wigs together.
- Spoiler:
Lets start on a positive note then with:
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=3371665519 This is a black Rukia [Bleach] wig from CCKids. This wig is amazing. It's soft, layered and styled/made perfectly for Rukia. Only problem is the middle spike needs to be styled, but that's easy as just adding some hairspray. My wig came in the exact same color, length, style etc. So I was very pleased with it. It came in a wignet and plastic bag.
Rating 4/5
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=8587507044 This is a pink wig from Ghostcos made for Luka [Vocaloid]. I'm using it for a different cosplay, but it was good enough to style for it. I must say this is my most favourite wig I have had. It's soft, silky, untangles easily. Amazing color, like the picture, and is just beautiful. It's also very thick, which is also good. It came in a wignet and a plastic bag too. Their shop's wig are just as amazing as the pictures.

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=6057720664 Okay. This wig was utterly disgusting which the price reflects. It looked good in the pictures. Soft, black, slighty wavy. When I recieved it, It was knotted and frizzy as hell, wavier than the picture, and shiny. It looks slighty better than a party wig. In my attempt to straighten it with hot water, the wig Melted. That's right guys. It went all kinky and melted. Which reflects the crap quality. I am very unimpressed and I'm never buying from this shop again for the sake of my sanity.

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=6032837332 Same shop as before. This wig is slighty better. It's still very shiny, but it's softer than the previous. It's alot more curled than the photo led on, as well as shorter. The color is so dark brown it's nearly black, whereas I asked for the pictured medium brown color. The wig is still wearable and will work for my cosplay, I was just expecting something different.

those two wigs...they are only beauty wigs (is that what you call them?),me and my friends (being asians as we are) all buy this type of wigs for everyday wear...so they aren't actually designed for cosplay as the fibers used are completely different in cosplay wigs and beauty wigs (eg. temperature resistance, texture, etc). that being said...there should be a minimum quality to them...but this is China we are talking about =/ and most of the times if you buy too cheap in china you usually wont get quality stuff...(my cosplay boots broke on the first day I wore it...it cost me $10NZ)
Oh and i don't know how many people has noticed this on Taobao (or any other Chinese e-shop sites), there are actually alot of different sellers selling the same product all using the same photos...hmmm.....yes we steal each other's photos, especially if one shop if selling particularly well then the other shops tries to use that shop's images or names so that people buy from them as well.
Example: http://search.taobao.com/search?q=%C1%F7%BA%A3%B7%DB%C9%AB%C6%EB%C1%F5%BA%A3%B6%CC%B7%A2BOBO+%BF%C9%B0%AE+%C5%EE%CB%C9&searcy_type=item&s_from=newHeader&source=store&ssid=s5-e&search=y
...and some how when the product is sent to you what is received looks slightly different or very different to the photo. It's VERY common in China. To prevent this kind of stuff happening do sheck the shop ratings and the comments of previous buyers of the the product you want to buy, the more the better...but this will work probably up to 75% of the time...
hmm, I think I'll shut up now OTL|||
well the more you buy the more experince you have XD (and the more money you spend >.>|||) |

| ^Agreed, pretty much every Asian fashion wig shop on there has the same pictures. Personally, I'm not sure if I would trust a wig seller with less than a 4.6 rating for accuracy of product description. Like apple.butter said, probably just take the item + seller feedback into account when you're looking for stuff.
I'll update this post maybe sometime in the holidays/soon-ish when I have time to photograph my wigs and stuff. |

| Thankyou for your reviews. :3
A lot of wigs melt when they are heated, so don't try to heat-style it unless you know the wig is heat-resistant. However, I think most wigs can tolerate up to hot water at about 80 degrees. |

| @Thread: Lol guys, I know this. I just wasn't expecting sugar honey iced tea tangled wigs when I've bought those 'fashion wigs' before off ebay. They were never this bad ;u; |

| ^oh yes regarding that i forgot to mention...those fashion wigs do tangle badly easily...if you spray it with hair spray of sillicon spray it will stay tamed for a few hours then it goes all wonky again...especially the long wigs (short ones dont really tangle)...i never bother brushing them because the tangles get so bad i'd probably have to tug out heaps of locks of hair if i did...
once i got so pissed at a wig i just got a pair of scissors and sliced the whole wig to a short bob...problem solved... >.>||| |
