Bump! So I'm talking to Alex and Steph about the collar lining colour, and we're a little confused. B| Kanji (http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery-08/p4-kanji-tatsumi1.html and http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery-08/p4-kanji-tatsumi3.html ) and Yosuke ( http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery-08/p4-yosuke-hanamura1.html ) both have black linings, but Souji and Naoto have either White/Grey/Tawny coloured - but you can't really tell if it's White or non-white. @_@

Group shot: http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery-08/p4-illust02.html

SO: Question 1:
Should everyone have the same colour lining for their collar given that school uniforms are mass-produced and generally are the same for all students, or should we stick to the reference images and have Yosuke in black and Naoto and Souji in white?

Question 2:
...what colour are Naoto & Souji's collar linings? (Ref pics below)

1. I'd go with the reference images for accuracy, even if it means that some of the characters have black-lined collars, and others have white-lined collars.

2. Seeing as I was the one who raised this question, I personally have no idea whether they're white or not. XDDD The reference images vary between grey/tawny/white, so I think it just we should just go whichever colour the majority agrees on.... /unhelpful.

1. I agree with the sticking to ref images for accuracy's sake.

2. For Souji's collar I was looking at a light grey colour for the colour. I used to have some cotton that colour that looked white when strong light was directly on it, and looked like a darker grey when it was deeply shadowed.

Not that this affets me in my sweet not-school-uniform-dress, but I like this idea! A really really pale grey, it'll look white next to blacks and dark greys, but in close-ups and shadows it'll come off grey.

SO. Skirt/collar fabric.

I have 1m of houndstooth which is the right size check, which I can't find more of at either of the two spotlight branches close to me (including the one I bought it at). I do have the receipt though, so I can email Spotlight and ask, but given that I bought it 6 months ago, our chances are pretty slim. sad My 1m is enough for both me and Lucy to have (just under) 40cm long skirts that have 2cm deep pleats, and if we did the waistbands in different fabric, then I would have enough left over for four boy's uniform collars (Rikki, Admin, Midsummer, ?).

...unfortunately I don't have enough for three skirts. orz Ideally I think deeper pleats would look better (I think I'm gunna make a mock-up to see how it looks - maybe it'll look okay afterall), but given that we can't find anymore of the fabric, the shallower pleats should be an okay compromise.

BUT ANYWAY.

Spotlight does have some large size houndstooth at the moment (at a guess I'd say each checker was 1.5cmx1.5cm? Probably half an inch, actually), which is $22/m, and Alena has just bought some of that. HERE ARE OUR OPTIONS:

1) We all buy the larger houndstooth (wrong size though correct pattern. Expensive.)
2) We go stingy and buy the correctly sized gingham (can get right size, though pattern is incorrect. Relatively cheap.)
3) Mix-n-match a - Alena sticks with the larger houndstooth, I share mine with Lucy & we have a different waistband (plain black probably? Or even the large houndstooth?) & I give out the collar fabric from mine.
4) Mix-n-match b - same as above, but Lucy buys the larger houndstooth as well so we can have deeper pleats (though really at that rate we may as well just do 1, lol).

What do people prefer? I'm leaning towards 3 at the moment seeing as Alena and I have both already bought fabric, though as I said, I think I'll make a mock-up skirt to check it looks okay first. C: I'm happy to do whatever the majority says, though~

3 seems most economical though im not above buying the right fabric if the chance so arises. And I'll most definitely have fabric left over (my habit of buying surplus is a terrible one ...)

Yeah, I just don't think we're gunna find the right fabric again, sob. Do you want me to email Spotlight on the off-chance? ...maybe I should just make a thread on here asking people around the country to keep an eye out...

Alternatively you could look into doing a large enough online order with the right size for everyone...?

sora-roxas-ven needs some for her collar too...?

Possibly others idk.

that would be good i think. I'm USUALLY lucky when it comes to fabric shopping. We'll see what happens I suppose and with the weight of the fabric I got today I think deeper pleats definitely look better since its between mid weight to heavy. To me anyways.

Those all look similar enough sized to mine - so assuming we just bought a yard each for Alena and Lucy, this would be the price with shipping:

1) $29.98 USD -> $42 NZD -> $21NZD each.
2) $52.33 USD (PHENOMENAL shipping price!) -> $73NZD -> $36NZD each
3) $53.91 USD (Shipping is even more expensive - plus, this is a PRINT of houndstooth pattern on canvas fabric, not proper woven houndstooth like I've got.) - (you get the idea, I cbf working out the prices)

So if we were gunna go down that route, I think the first one would be the best one.

@Alena: Yeah, I had a look at that fabric today - it is quite heavyweight. The stuff I have is a bit lighter weight.

EDIT: I just measured the squares on mine - they're 1/4" not including the extendy bits. Including the extendy bits, they're pretty much half an inch, so the fabric I have will be near identical to that first auction (it says the squares are 1/4" and the extendy bits included is 7/12" which is JUST over half an inch). So um, I think it's possibly the exact same fabric I have... Okay, I just measured the width of my fabric, and mine is 58" wide just like the auction. I am 97% sure the fabric is the exact same. I would weigh it to see if it weighs 7 ounces, but uh, cbf lol.

If that's the case then a yard each should be more than enough for pleated skirts with decent depth pleats.

I'll make an order when money comes in next month. How many metres should I get? I know we need at least 2m for mine and Lucy's skirts.

Because they're knife pleats I think a yard per person should be enough (one for you, one for Lucy. A yard is 91cm, and the fabric is 145cm wide). The only other girl we have in the group is Syill, but idk if she's still doing the costume or not...

As I said above, I'll be able to supply fabric for everyone's collars from my leftovers - so yeah, it's basically a case of whether or not Syill is still doing the costume (in which case we'd need to order 3 yards).

Lucy's in transit at the moment coz she's staying with Steph this week, but I've txted her to ask if she's okay with the price, so I'll keep you posted. C:

I hope so! It was priority shipping though, which is usually pretty fast...

@PEOPLE COSPLAYING BOYS UNIFORM: Lemme know how much fabric you need for your collar - I'm pretty sure that a 50cmx13cm piece should be enough (seeing as it's lined in a different colour) but yeah - the sooner you tell me, the sooner I can get a piece to you. C:

US Priority Mail usually takes 5-10 business days (I think?) from Cosworx - IDK how long it would be from that seller though. D: (They listed US Priority Mail as the method of choice)

Alena when this week were you planning on making the order? I don't think the stuff at the Otara place is the same sized check (assuming Alice's finger is a similar width to mine). :<

@Lucy: Afaik the plan was to share shipping, but you only save $1-$2 USD doing so, so maybe it'd be better to order alone if Alena's not doing it soon. o_O
