Angel Beats! By _Yuki. 23/04/10, 04:54 pm |
| Best thing airing this season.
At the very least, best opening song of the season.
Made with some good names out there, like Maeda Jun (a writer and composer for Key), Na-Ga (character designer, also from Key), Kishi Seiji (director - Seto no Hanayome etc) P.A. works (CANAAN), and I for one look forward to every episode hurrdurr
It's written by Maeda, who does scenarios and such for Key games... which is pretty obvious as you get the Key 'sad girls' coming through. It's a serious anime, yet doesn't quite have the depth of Key's other works as it is a one-shot, rather than a project with a game to back it up.
Also, the opening has Lia singing for it. I love basically all songs that involve damae and Lia, but this one, combined with the detailed opening sequence is really a worthwhile watch. The first episode isn't anything amazing, but I really just love the opening sequence. Also it changes every time :3
I <3 Iwasawa. <33333. More Sawashiro Miyuki love.
I'm not interested in comparing it to Key's other works, although it has been compared, it is mainly run by Maeda Jun who is distancing himself from Key for this particular project. I love his compositions, his writing is decent and the story is one that I would definitely have been curious about had it been a game. I want to see how it pans out. While I am waiting for releases, I will probably learn the opening song on the piano or draw fanart.
I know that I'm not the only one who looked forward to this before it started airing.
Now if you haven't seen it, go watch it. If you have seen it, we can chat about Key's tradition of inserting 'sad girls' into their stories or something. |

| wow this is my favourite show this season, as mention above opening is awesome. Apparently (don't quote) more material to support the story line is coming out (manga etc) because the writer thinks the anime is too short to tell the story |

Re: Angel Beats! By Sheldawg. 26/06/10, 09:02 am |
| This anime just left way too many plotholes, Yuri didn't have a strong presence as a main character by just leaving in an anti-climatic fashion and Tenshi developed terribly imo.
Basically, 13 episodes isn't good enough for a KEY anime with so many characters with potential. Plus I really wanted to see some OtonashixYuri, but that didn't really affect my final impression of Angel Beats!
By the way, Otonashi is a douche. He made everyone dissapear and then has a change of heart and wants to stay because of Kanade, and then he tries making her stay with him. That's pretty low.

Re: Angel Beats! By _Yuki. 26/06/10, 04:56 pm |
| So like, Maeda already explained that the anime itself was not long enough to really elaborate on the story, which is why there is not only a light novel series but a manga being serialized to cover all parts of the story that weren't in the anime.
Knowing what Maeda's writing is like, he has already written backstories for every single character in the series, and Angel Beats! will probably just play itself out over the means of some other media.
Maeda's writing is good, but for a series cut so short it's just not quite good enough to make up for it.
Good ending for now, their graduation was still worth the watch and I don't regret for a minute watching this series and keeping up with it,
and despite it constantly being compared to other Key works, I don't even think they're in the same league. This is not only an original story, but it's Maeda alone and with so many characters and so little time, it deserves a remake like Brotherhood was FMA's facelift and perhaps a better director. Ahh, graduation. I still fully enjoyed this series, though I wish I had seen more of Iwasawa. |

Re: Angel Beats! By Basaka. 28/06/10, 02:48 pm |
| Still gotta finish it, now that my exams are over:
AB! Should have been 24 episodes. I do not think it is the directors fault, as he has done very good shows. It's mainly the show and pacing that was the problem. imo, the first half of the show was very weak, and some of the time spent doing those activities could have been used to push the plot further.
I'll finish the series tomorrow or something, and give a longer view. |

Re: Angel Beats! By _Yuki. 28/06/10, 03:34 pm |
| It honestly just should have been twice the length.
The plot just had so much left to develop.
Is anyone reading the novel series?
This show HONESTLY. DESERVES. A REMAKE.
And yes, he was pretty awesome for Seto no Hanayome. God knows you won't find an anime with a more BAMF wife. |

Re: Angel Beats! By Basaka. 29/06/10, 02:26 pm |
| Ok, finished last 4 episodes today.
Imo, the first 8 or so episodes could have been shortened, to make room for the later episodes. As to me, those few episodes felt more like fillers than anything else. However, the last few episodes definitely made up for it. They carried enough emotion and messages. Either that, or a longer show. I'm sure PA works has enough budget to. Angel's confession to Otonashi surprised me, though.
As for ep13, Otonashi merely wanted to stay by a person he regards to as precious to him. However, he also has to realize that he too, must move on, and face the unknown tomorrow like the others. Angel was the one to tell him that.
I gave it 7/10 overall. Also, by episode 3, I was thinking that the school was a microcosm for society, to allow the rebels to reintegrate. I was kinda right, I guess :p |
