Skulduggery Pleasant!
Post By P-Layton. 28/03/10, 11:31 am

Well hello there!
You were probably lured here by the rather amazing subject name? No? You surprise me.
But I'm not here to talk aimlessly about subject names (although it might be interesting). I am here for a far more noble and - and - and... what's the word? Chivalrous? No. YES! Honourable, that's the word.
I'm here for a far more noble and honourable expiditon.

First of all (this part isn't neither of the above mentioned adjectives, but more curiosity), have you read Skulduggery Pleasant? It's pretty good, huh? What'd you think of the latest one (Dark Days)? Which is your favourite, that sort of thing.

Second of all (be prepared for nobleness and honourableness), I rather much wanted to tell you guys that Derek Landy is coming to New Zealand, Wellington and Auckland, how cool is that?
He's coming to Auckland on the 29th of March and Wellington on the 30th.
But just check this out (tells you more);

See ya' there (hopefully).

@ Icarus;
You haven't read the second yet, you say? Well, just so you know it's not so good as the others.
Also, I noticed on your 'location' part of your post (the thing on the right side that also holds the avatar) says 'Bulls'. Are you going to drive all the way from Bulls to Wellington or Auckland (on a school day no less)?
If you are;
Godspeed you (Black Emperor)

@ Olli;

It's rather sad how few of you can actually go...
Well, look on the bright side, if Derek Landy is a dodo, then at least your image of him won't be bad, right? Very Happy

Just to make you jealous, I'm going to post how awesome and cool it was at the book signing!

We got there at four P.M, the place was packed. It took us forty five minutes to get at the end of the line, but it was worth it. While waiting in the line we got a packet of playing cards with Skulduggery characters on it, pretty neat, huh?
At the end of the line, I was face to face with Derek Landy. He said he liked my stitched on Donkey Kong on my pants.
We exchanged polite conversation, while he signed my book. Then I asked if he had any tips for aspiring writers (that's me!).
He said, roughly;

'(jokingly) don't kick me of the top-list, or I'll kill you.
'Nah, don't write what you think'll be the next big thing, write what you want to write' Derek says, then continues, 'If you enjoy writing, then your readers will enjoy reading your writing'.

That's very roughly what he said, excluding some fillers.
All in all it was rather awesome! I'm sorry I didn't see any of you there (not that I would have recognised you).

It was sooo cool.

ffffoh man I missed this ahaha (oh well >___>) I read the first book and that was awesome. His style reads a bit like a screenplay, which is fun. Haven't read the other ones though...

lol the Neil Gaiman signing took three hours to get to the end of the line according to Murk... thankfully it only took me one hour 8Db

Dudeplayingcardsawesome. Pict0rs? 8Db

Second best advice I've heard on that topic (first by Mr. G hurr). I'll write that all down. -scribble- Don't... kick... Derek Landy... off... top-selling list. Hokay.

(Aspiring writers fistbump for great justice hellz yeah)

Yeah, the writing style is pretty neat. You should read the other ones (the third is great!)... god, I feel like a sales person. XD.

The cards do have nice pictures, save for Ghastly Bespoke, he looks a bit... ghastly?
I'd show photos of the cards, but I'm a n00b at that sort of thing, and I'm not sure how to show it on the forums.

What was Mr. G(aimen?)'s advice?

xD Alrighty then - next trip to Whitcoulls... Kids' Section awayy! ...Hey! There's a fourth book! :0

Seems fitting 8Db I think it says how to do that in the FAQ. But host the image on like Photobucket or imageshack or something then shove the url between [img][/img]

The original advice to become a writer was to take a goat then slaughter it, then on the same night go to your front door at midnight - at the stroke of twelve, you will hear three knocks, but do not answer it! Then you will hear five knocks. Open the door. He [Neil Gaiman], Stephen King and JK Rowling will all be standing there in robes (by this point everyone was roaring with laughter) and they will bestow upon you epic writing powers.

The advice after that was to just write and keep on writing. Smile

^Whoa... that's quite the process.

Hey, thanks. I'll remember that. I'll post those cards some time or other.

Oh, by the way, the second isn't as good as the rest, but don't get discouraged, the third is EPIC and the fourth is EPIc.
(EPIC is most epic, EPIc a little less, and EPic even less, ect. ect.).

It was pretty damn snazzy (meeting Derek Landy)!
Dark Days was -in my opinion- great, although I have to agree with you that Valkyrie was a real arrogant for a mere side-kick. She's not all too cool, though, is she?

Spoiler:

Is the next Skulduggery Pleasant called Mortal Coil? Sounds awesome! I heard a rumour it was called

Oooh, I don't know. I heard through the grapevine it's Mortal Coil. I also heard that they're releasing the cover next week....? Either way, I can't wait for another one.

And true, you can't fault that Valk is pretty awesome.
