Cosply fun 711668 Hey I love CHCHGeddon but I've always found the cosplaying little more than a fashion show unfortunately.
With the exception of Nine Inch Tumtacks i've found the skits to be boring or just wierd and some people don't realise what they are cosplaying from. My sister and I (aswell as a few others) laughed at a Chii Chobits skit of course I got it as I have seen all the eps but some people were very confused.
What i'm trying to get at is there need to be more cosplay events -even if it is organiyed here on CNZ.
I've seen videos and heard friends reactions to the american expos and you'r wierd if you DON'T cosplay and people always organize private little things to do at the expo (including a Roxas and Namine wedding complete with cake and a keyblade to cut it with).
I thought of a few things that could be done!
1. A cosplay picnic in the botanical gardens. Its not too far to walk and pretty much on Saturday not that much happens during lunch as I've noticed as the event organizers have realised people leave for lunch and return at about 2:00pm. It would be amazing provide pictures for tourists and you know the crazy stuff that can happen if we decided to walk in to the museum which of course is right beside the botanic gardens. and if not at the botanical gardens somewhere else like the cathedral square.
2. Cosplay dancing contest. Okay now raise your hand if you know at least one of the following dances: Hare Hare Yukai, Mottekke Sailor Fuku, Caramell Dansen, Hoedown Throwdown. Even if your not cosplayed as one of the characters we can still do it!
3. DDR. Okay i saw NO cosplayers on the DDR machine last year and frankly there should have been!
4. Prizes. Okay so some people are too afraid to show there costumes on stage why don't they get a prize?!

Come on I'm sure you guys can thing of some to!

SQEESILES AND HUGGLES!

You know what? I think by not being on these forums, you've missed all of these; they happen, you just haven't seen them because you didn't know when they were happening. ;P

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=cosplay+games+armageddon&search_type=&aq=f
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=armageddon+caramelldansen&search_type=&aq=f

In regards to the skits though; a lot of people put a lot of thought into their skits, and would most likely find it quite upsetting to hear that they were 'boring' or 'weird'. A lot of those people are on these forums as well, so please don't put down other people's hard work. As the old saying goes, 'if you've got nothing nice to say, then don't say anything at all'. Constructive criticism makes the world go round, but 'it was boring' is hardly constructive, yes? ;)

Aside from that though; the competition itself is pretty much half a fashion show - it's a way to showcase the hard work that went into all of the amazing costumes that everyone made. Cosplay is definitely about the playing around and having fun, but it IS also about the costume side of things as well - for some people, the making is the more important of the two. nodnod

lol, as JVCA said it all happens, it just tends to be arranged via the forums and everyone disappears off to go to them. :)

Yeah things happen among the CNZ community and most of the cosplayers,
if not, all the cosplayers are from here and so stuff goes from there ^^

P.S i totally understand about the chii motosuwa thing bro
I was like "WOOOO GO CHIIII!!!" and everyone sounded like they got shot by a tranquilizer. but yeah theres a waterfight coming soon, Cosplay games/olympics and thats this month ^^

https://cosplaynewzealand.forumotion.com/christchurch-cosplay-club-f18/waterfiiight-3-t7477.htm

Other than that, the crowd ain't that supportive in chch to be honest.
We have some of the most cosplayers but it's just the fact that we need to be acknowledged properly. The chch people are pretty sedate in their feedback in terms of skits.
But rest assured, cnz tries their hardest indeed ^^

Dude.... there's cosplay picnics being organised every year, and this year, other regions other than Auckland are organising ones too (correct me if non-Auck picnics were organised last year).

There are a lot of cosplay events that are organised throughout the year, maybe you've just been missing them? JVCA has pretty much summed most of it up. :3b

There are dancing events at all the big events too, like, Auckgeddon has CaramellDansen almost every year, I'm, not sure about the other cities, but at Doujin Overload there has been dances organised every year as well. ^_^;;;

Maybe it would pay to browse through the forums more carefully first before jumping straight into posting things like these? Cosply fun 37781

Well this is always going to be the ongoing debate. Yes Chii was brilliant. If they actually get the sound right so people can hear them then the monologues were quite good, as they can really be used to showcase the character. And one person can easily practice and put a lot of passion into it. One of the best skits, boring, but clever, was the day after they showed death note movie. One guy s just sat on a seat, pulled out some M&Ms and ate them, then ate a second packet. Simple, true to character. But in that case many of the crowd will have seen the movie, many would just have been WTF?

Never forget the competitors moment, they just let people watch. But then it is the crowd, which whatever you think of the reaction, is always large, that spurs bill to give us the time on the main stage. You can make the skits funny or clever enough that people will laugh, or be entertained even if they don't know the characters.

The tough bit is that it takes a lot of effort to create and polish a performance, esp. as well as doing your own costume (time), and with people from different locations. And they are only allowed 1 minute. And the ethos is to allow anyone to enter.

Certainly I think we can do much better. But there is a new format, being introduced in Welly or Auck? I don't think ChCh gets it this year. It gives us a different time on stage to do non-competitive cosplay stuff. And that means that possibly we can organize say 3-4 skits of 3-4 minutes of a more theatrical standard. I have seen vids of this done overseas with minimal props, and good writing/well practiced timing.

But certainly there are already threads for discussing this. They are probably a bit old, so you will have to search to find them.

Yes- It's one thing to whisper this to a friend when you are at home, quite another to do it on a public forum in a small community. (I've seen this on people's deviant art comments too)

In regards to Chchgeddon specifically - the Chch'ians are the best organised group of cosplayers in the country. Maybe try doing a little research before you go getting all "constructive"...

We (ChCh'ians) have picnics in the Botanical Gardens almost every month, and they almost always involve some of the dances you mentioned above. xD Aura and I organized one including games just a few weeks ago. You should browse the Christchurch section of the forums if you want to find out more about any upcoming events - or if you'd like to organize one yourself.

Have you ever entered the Cosplay Competition at Armageddon before? It takes a decent amount of guts to get up in front of everyone in costume and put on a performance - not to mention the hours of work put into the costumes themselves. If you're enthusiastic about getting into cosplay (which you seem to be), then I encourage you to get involved, browse the forums, learn more about what it takes to be a cosplayer, and have a go at it yourself before making any hasty judgments about other people.

Just a reminder - the thread was started back at the start of Jan and rapidly pointed out that there were regular events - which they'd apparently missed out on. Razz
