Tintin!?
By JVCA. 17/12/09, 06:31 am |
| So, as far as I know there aren't any topic about Tintin on here yet, though do correct me if I'm wrong.
Who else is a fan of the Tintin comics? I found a whole bunch of them at the new office my dad moved into when I was a kid and absolutely loved them - the first comic I ever read bar newspaper comics.
Anyone else heard about the Tintin movies that Peter Jackson is doing? What do you think about the fact that they're using CGI for Tintin and Captain Haddock, rather than real actors? |

| Yes! Snowy! >w< I love Professor whats-his-face (I suck with names, I haven't read the comics in YEARS) and the twins - though Captain Haddock always made me laugh.
The movies he's doing - he's doing three, and teaming up with either Quentin Tarantino or Steven Speilberg (I forget which one) and they're doing it all live action except Tintin and Captain Haddock, who they're using the Gollum technology for, to do them realistically in CGI. o_O |

| I can't find the article, but they're using CG over the real actors (like in Beowolf) to do the Tintin films according to a herald article I read... This one implies it, at the very least : http://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/news/article.cfm?c_id=1501119&objectid=10440060
Still, I think that Jamie Bell could pull Tintin off personally. He's got a good face shape for it. |

| 'sall good! It's not due out till 2011 as you said, but I'm excited too. Apparently they've actually finished filming already and they're working on the CG, which takes two years to do. D: But they do it like how they did with Gollum, by putting markers on the faces that the computer can pick up on. |

| Lul, whoot! Yes, me and my brother have both been waiting/discussing this for some time now. I used to love Tintin, though it is a tad bit before siblings time. They have apparently finished making the movie, but have something like 3 years to complete the rendering of the 3D... Like... WTF. We also wonder if it is going to be as racist as the original comics were

wow... I can only imagine the effort that will go into it now! they took long enough with 1 character in LOTRs and now to do it with all the characters!? they are dedicated!
did it say anywhere why they were doing it all CG? I think i missed that part |

| I think they were doing it in CG to recapture the original feel of the comics? Previous Live Action films have been made, but they felt lackluster (apparently) when compared to the comics. o_O |

| mmm, my only phear is the loss of story... I mean, you dont need awesome graphics to have a good story, and good acting, so I hope they dont lose any of that atmosphere. That said, ones expectations from Peter Jackson are relatively high, so I hope he will not disappoint with the amount of effort they are putting in to it. The previous live actions (which I can so barely remember) were well... Old? And in reminiscence, probably a bit lackluster - LA just cant capture the atmosphere like a still frame comic Lets see what a new age feel to it does... |

| JVCA, your awesome for creating this thread ! =) Have always loved the Tintin comic series, and like Olli above is/ was a huge fan of Snowy the dog~~
The movie is sounding amazing already, and have epic faith that they are going to pull the movie off, movies based of comics have a chance of turning out really well, sometimes..
They should bring the cartoon back on TV, can still remember the musical theme they had for Tintin whenever he did something heroic..( just, barely..xD)

| Oh, Tintin, YOU ARE AMAZING.
I used to go down to the library every weekend and get out Tintin comics. I've read most of them many many times >3<
A movie... If it goes the way that Hollywood typically take movies... Then I don't hold high hopes. Knowing them, they'll probably introduce a love interest or something... Which just wouldn't work with Tintin. Or they'll make it all dramatic, like they seem to have done with Sherlock Holmes. But, if it's Peter Jackson... then it has a lot of potential
My favourite characters were always Thomson and Thompson. As well as the Professor. And Captain Haddock. And Tintin. And Snowy. And Nestor. Heck, all of them.
This topic has made me want to make a bunch of other topics... Beware. |

| I have very fond memories of Tintin. I remember always being holed up in the public library reading those things, even though at the time half of the stuff went right over my head.
I read it in the original French, and after comparing it with the english version, I'd say that the localisation was excellent. c: |

| TINTIN IS LOVE
I'm serious, I used to have a total crush on him when I was younger haha
- JVCA wrote:

Professor Cuthbert Calculus. Magically un-deaf whenever he hears someone say 'playing the goat' ;) In the French his name is Tournesol, meaning sunflower (fitting). Also, Snowy in French is Milou, which was the nickname of Hergé's girlfriend during his teenage years (Marie-Louise) and Thomson and Thompson are Dupond et Dupont. Captain Haddock is just Haddoque, haha.
On the topic of names, Hergé is a penname - it's a reverse of his initials R G, his real name is Georges Prosper Remi :)

QFT. I did some of this to study for French sometimes, haha. Localisation is BRILLIANT. Anthea Bell translated them, right? (I think) She also did the Asterix and Obelix comics as well (French comics ftw - I'll always love the old Asterix comics better) and oh god the translations are genius. Especially on names. No, no I lie 8D idk who translated Tintin, actually.
I think at one point for the movie they were going to have Thomas Sangster as Tintin and Andy Serkis as Captain Haddock? Ah well, Jamie Bell is pretty dern cool. They better do justice >w> |

| I used to read the comics every morning tea/lunch at Intermediate with my best friend - we used to laugh and have so much fun looking for a drunk Snowy. Also when I went overseas I visited the TinTin store/museum in Belguim and got her a Snowy Plusie... I wish I'd got one for myself. I'd like to re-read them again - and maybe see the cartoons (I don't quite remember them though). |

| LOL Tintin. My seven-year-old brother is simply OBSESSED. Everything is Tintin. Every phrase he says somehow relates to Tintin. I just told him there's going to be a movie next year and he got all excited... hehe so cute. The TV series is a little odd--it's like Canadian or something, so the voices don't quite match in my opinion... |
