| Just wondering if you're doing confirmations back about memberships. I dumped some cash into your account and renewed my membership a few weeks ago and haven't got anything back from you guys. Is this coz you've been horrifically busy or coz you're not sending out confirmations at all? |

| Mel - yup, your membership was renewed.
You can blame the lack of confirmation on me (and i'll blame the ball ).
Sorry to anyone i haven't responded to. Will try to flick you a note back when i confirm payment. We also need to work on getting the next batch of cards out, and sorting out the AGM aswell. |

| JVCA - Yup - renewed till 31/3/2011. ;)
I think it was done using the $15 you had in credit (when you paid $20 instead of $5), and the special offer to renew at $15 for existing members. |

| kagerouhi - also paid and confirmed - membership until 31/3/2011. - my fault on the lack of responses for anyone that didn't get one. We've got another committee meeting later this week so we'll need to set a time to print out the latest membership cards aswell, and also get the mailing list active. We've had quite a few people join the mailing list, so will start sending out more regular mailouts shortly, the first one will be relating to membership renewal, and also the details for when/where our AGM is. We're still sorting out if theres any way we can accommodate non-Wellington members, but it may be a case of just forwarding them the details of the AGM afterwards. |

| For those of you that haven't joined our mailing list yet. Mailer as follows:
- Quote :
- Good morning all, we're somewhat overdue for sending out emails on a regular basis, but will be addressing this shortly - more regular emails to follow! :)
Firstly, a few matters of business.
Memberships to the Society came up for renewal on 1st April. Existing members are offered to renew for $15 - extending their membership until 31-Mar-2011. New members - full year - still $20.
Join or Renew with us at: http://www.cosplay.org.nz/form/membership.php
Secondly, our AGM is coming up. As an incorporated society we are required to hold an annual general meeting (AGM), and for us this is generally held in May. Our first AGM will be held Saturday 29th May 2010, at 11am. The venue for the AGM is currently planned to be Toi Pōneke Art Centre - 61 Abel Smith Str, Wellington. *This may be subject to change. http://www.zoomin.co.nz/map/nz/wellington/te+aro/abel+smith+street/61/-toi+poneke+wellington+arts+centre/
As part of our charter there is a minimum attendance of of 10 members required, and the AGM will only be open to members, general public will not be permitted entry. We have however decided to offer an AGM special of $5 for membership until June 30th - being the first quarter of our full membership year.
Membership renewals will be accepted on the door. New members will also be accepted subject to approval for membership by the committee.
If you're interested in hearing about what we're trying to do with the society, how the ball went, or how the society is shaping up so far, you're highly encouraged to attend.
A report on the AGM will also be available afterwards for out of towners who can't attend, but if you're Wellington based please make the effort. If we get less than 10 people show, we have to cancel and call another one.
Thank you. Jp Wise - SPCC Treasurer |

- Good morning again.
Firstly, we'd like to a make a brief public service announcement on event etiquette with Doujin Overload coming up this weekend. Followed by shoutouts for several other upcoming events that may be of interest to cosplayers around the country. ---
DO:2010 - Auckland & General Event Etiquette
As most of you no doubt will be aware, Doujin Overload (DO:2010 - www.animenz.com) is coming up this weekend, so it's probably about time to issue a polite reminder. Most of you won't have heard about it, but there were a number of complaints last year regarding cosplayers at DO, particularly blocking access to artists tables, and loitering in thoroughfares. Including a comment regarding someone blowing soap bubbles - apparently this was done inside the venue and some artists had problems with bubbles landing on their artwork and leaving soapy residue - which can be particularly damaging with water and oil based artworks. So just a points to bear in mind if you're attending DO this weekend. * Please don't block access to the artists tables - it's part of their livelihood and if customers can't get to the tables, they can't sell their artwork. * Please take extra care with props, noone wants to accidentally damage anything on display, or injure anyone. * Please don't take any food or drink into the main room - this is a DO rule to protect peoples artworks and the venue itself - other rules are on display at the door. * Please use your common sense - having fun is awesome, but if you make a nuisance of yourself it makes all the cosplayers look bad, and if that happens we may be asked to leave.
This really applies as much to any event as it does to DO specifically. ---

TinTango's Murder Mystery Dinner (TTMD) - Palmerston North - 14th Aug
Have you ever wanted to cosplay a 'Detective'? Or wondered what your favourite character would do, if they had to solve a Murder? Well here's your chance to find out, in:
TinTango's Murder Mystery Dinner (TTMD): Prelude to Murder Saturday August 14th 2010, 5.30PM till late Wharerata, Massey University, Palmerston North The Scenario: The Amateur International Detective Association (A.I.D.A) is holding their prestigious award ceremony and you have an invitation. But a dark cloud hangs over this year's proceedings with the recent death of one of A.I.D.A's founders. As the ceremony gets underway, an associate dies and tension mounts as you turn to your colleagues with the sudden realization that there is indeed, a murderer amongst you. It's up to you to uncover the murderer's identity, but be warned... the closer you get to the killer, the more likely you are to draw their attention and end up the next victim.
Cost is $30, to help cover the catering (Lamb Roast Buffet Dinner) although participation in fundraising events is greatly appreciated (LINK:http://forum.cosplay.co.nz/user-run-events-f2/tintango-s-mmd-fundraising-thread-t9166.htm). Open to CNZ and SPCC members only, with no double-ups, but be quick, only FOUR places remain, first in first served. Note: there is an extensive backstory, with an in-character AIDA website, with additional clues to read up on. For details on how to apply, please read here: http://forum.cosplay.co.nz/user-run-events-f2/tintango-s-murder-mystery-dinner-prelude-to-murder-t8927.htm ---
Au Contraire - Wellington - 27-29th of August
Hi guys! Some of us in the Wellington crew are hard at work planning the super-de-awesome cosplay panels for the Au Contraire Sci-fi/Fantasy con in August. We'd love to see you guys there too! Au Contraire is the 31st NZ National Sci-fi and Fantasy Con. It's being held on the 27-29th of August in The Quality Hotel, Cuba Street. Smack bang in the middle of town. Their website is www.aucontraire.org.nz.
But the cosplay stuff. On Friday, our crack team of cosplayers are going to construct a cosplay. All in one day. This shall be of such awesomeness, we just know you're going to want to buy it on Saturday's Auction. On Saturday, we're running a panel about some of the technical aspects around cosplay. On Sunday, we're having a discussion about the social aspects of cosplay. You should totally come along and support us. Check out the provisional timetable over at aucontraire.org.nz And, assuming we get things properly organised, we are hoping to have a cosplay exhibition going over all three days. For this we need people to submit costumes! If you're keen to have a costume of yours in an exhibition being seen by thousands of local and international fans, get in touch! We have a discussion going (very slowly) over at CNZ: https://cosplaynewzealand.forumotion.com/general-cosplay-discussion-f12/au-contraire-wellington-sci-fi-fantasy-con-27-29-august-costume-exhibition-t9247.htm
We'd love to see you guys and your costumes there. The Au Contraire Cosplay Panel crew - Mel, Kathy, Sylvie, Elsie, Luke and Aaron ---
Lastly - a number of people are still due to renew their memberships, we're now into the second quarter however, so the rate until end of financial year is now $15. If you have renewed (and paid) but haven't yet received your membership card please contact us ASAP to remedy this.

| OK. Latest mailer sent just before geddon, just realised I didn't cross post it.
If you want to join the mailing list you can do so on the website http://www.cosplay.org.nz
also please note - the membership bit was incorrect, I forgot to update it from the last mailer, we're now in the next quarter - Oct 1st onwards, so $10 until 31st March.
- Quote :
- Good morning again.
Firstly, in the same manner as the last mailout, we'd like to a make a brief public service announcement on event etiquette at gatherings cosplayers attend (most likely a regular thing every time an event is due). Followed by shoutouts for upcoming events that may be of interest to cosplayers around the country. ---
General Event Etiquette
As most of you no doubt will be aware, the numbers of cosplayers at the various events has been gradually increasing every year. As a result of this our profile has also gone up (awesome), but it does mean that if anyone causes problems, it reflects badly against everyone as as whole (not awesome). To try and counter this we'd just like to point out a few basic etiquette points to keep everyone happy. :)
So onwards with the points to bear in mind if you're attending an upcoming event. * Please don't block access to the exhibitors tables - it's part of their livelihood and if customers can't get to the tables, they can't sell their wares. * Please take extra care with props, noone wants to accidentally damage anything on display, or injure anyone. * Please abide by the rules of the venue - it's their venue, play by their rules. * Please use your common sense - having fun is awesome, but if you make a nuisance of yourself it makes all the cosplayers look bad, and if that happens we may be asked to leave.
For the non cosplayers/photographers, etc * Cosplayers for the most part are at the event for their own personal enjoyment. * Cosplayers are NOT paid to attend the event, so please don't' be offended if they're too busy to stop for a photo or talk to you for long. * Touching - don't do it. The costumes the cosplayers make and wear take an incredible amount of time to make, so don't just try grabbing their costumes or props to look at. If you ask permission to look at the detail and they say yes, you're good, otherwise don't just assume you can invade their space to do so.
Lastly - if you are having problems with anyone acting inappropriately (harassment) you can talk to to event staff, organizers, and a number of other people. If you choose to wear a costume that attracts attention that does not give someone permission to act inappropriately towards you and you can talk to people about it.
This really applies as much to any event.

Armageddon Auckland - 23-Oct-2010 - ASB Showgrounds
Yup, it's that time of year again, Auckland Armageddon is upon us. Most of the regular cosplayers have already travelled to Auckland and checked into motels, and it all kicks off in the morning.
It's pretty hard not to know about Auckland armageddon if you're in the cosplay community, but if you don't, you can view full information at their website - http://armageddonexpo.com/nz/
---
Lastly - a number of people are still due to renew their memberships, we're now into the second quarter however, so the rate until end of financial year is now $15. If you have renewed (and paid) but haven't yet received your membership card please contact us ASAP to remedy this.
