DINNER & GAMES
Post By Auroa. 13/02/08, 10:41 am

Edit: we are booking the restaruant for the non-cosplay (sorry guys) dinner, for 7pm. Its a place that does both chinese and english cuisines. It is $22, but they have like 6 different types of set menus, but they said we are welcome to swap items from each set etc. Its also like 3 minutes walk from the con.

Cosplay games are at 1pm Saturday.

~~~
Okay, so I spent the day lost in the middle of my city.
Well not lost, as I found the convention centre (providing armageddon's gonna be held in the same place) ... I looked around for a good area to do games and stuff.
There's a grass area kinda infront-to the side of the entrance... orrrrrrrrrrr we have the big park area (with ultra cool fountain) on the opposite side behind the town hill. Extremely easy to find either way and what 1 minute walk?
Okay be prepared this is when I suck to explain things good There's this concrete circle area (inside the park) that's like lower then the ground oO' and the edges are like a few steps? Suspect
Oh well whatever, picture it as a mini arena or something XD
====== that *cough* looks perfect for some battles, skits or random acting...
whereas the particpants can be inside and everyone sitting/watching on the step things Razz
So depending on how many are keen we could do some stuffs there.
Otherwise we just hover outside the con's entrance or something...
ALSO...
Okay, well in front of the Cathedral (in Cathedral Square) is a big chess thing. Where people play chess with knee-high pieces.
If we wanted to we could try giving cosplay chess a go. Since the black/white mat is already sorted for us ^^'
although/however the Square is like a 10 minute walk from the convention centre. (Along a straight street but yeah still...)
granted we just have the two days so finding time maybe an issue but eh, we got some choices anywhoo
we could even use the park area for photoshoots.
So thoughts? etc etc
cheers
oooh! do you mean the place near the town hall? That'd be so awesome (I love those fountains. they rock).
DINNER & GAMES CIMG2098_town_hall_fountains
do you mean these fountains? Or am I way off base? xD
...I can't remember where anything is in my own city... xD
cosplay chess would be fun... do we get to beat people up once we take their pieces? :D
I'm just gonna stop talking before I embarrass myself... xD
Hrm, I'll have to find the convention centre aswell when I get down there. I'm actually managing getting to Christchurch this year, flying down on the Thursday night after I finish work in Wellington. Then theory goes cocktail party on Friday night, Armageddon Sat/Sun, Monday/Tuesday day to kill, and fly back Tuesday night. :) Is the convention centre far from the square?
Good theory!
I like to spend at least one day to look around the city too.
Nope, its like 10 minutes walk by memory. Its really easy to find too. Down a straight road then on the left - or something. (Yes I was there yesterday, yes my memory sucks) ^^' ... well it is easy to find anyway.
And Annabel:
Yeap yeap! That's the one! You got it! XD
Don't worry I've lived in chch my whole life and barely know the streets outside my house oO'
Lol! Mwhahahah, yes, yes you do get to beat people up!!!
You've seen cosplay chess on youtube right?
(to clarify for others "beat up" means "pretend-beat up") =D
it just better not rain >>' heheheh.
Correction: Cathedral is only five minutes away... If you know the right route (in other words- FOLLOW ME!)
Uh, actually, most of the Sunday of 'Geddon has nothing on, so we should go then, at like... Nine thirty or ten... And go back to the convention centre at twelve. ;)
If we have time we should have a photoshoot around the plaques of the First Four Ships, as that's also a nice area (outside the cathedral). I'd also like to get some DMC pictures near the Christian statues outside the aforementioned building, too. ^^;;
I could compile a list for everyone of nice places for us to go in town to take photos, other than the obvious, if you guys'd like. I know all the rooms of all the buildings that could be interesting.
Cosplay chess on the chess board sounds great, too! Fabulous idea, Ange!
The staircase out the bottom of the Crown Plaza hotel would be good for practicing skits in front of an audience on (it' actually does get performers there, sometimes!) like you said.
For all those who'd like a tour of Christchurch, I'll be willing to show everyone around town on Friday from about midday or something (the Friday before CHCHgeddon, I mean) and also show everyone a few nifty places that I like going to (I don't think Ang goes into town a lot, if I've got my facts straight, and I know a lot of nooks and crannies you guys might like to visit while you're down here)
I'll be coming anyway (even if you don't invite me, I shall ninja into your group of touristy people) so I'll help Ang lead no matter what.
Uh, you, Juliette... But yes. I spend a lot of time in town.
Well, if it's the same or similar to last year, it won't.
you're helping me with this remember? Razz
@-@ actually... nothings stopping us from doing these games on both days either if we wanted to... I mean Sat's gonna have lots of cosplayers too heheheh...
actually I dunno whether we organise a proper time or just decided on the day... I mean if geddons gonna be the same size as last year it'll be easy enough to find each other ^^'
- the only thing is the cosplay chess, if we do decide to do it... we might have to like reserve it or something in advance oO' Suspect
thing is, we might not have enough people for cosplay chess, because there's 32 pieces all in all. ; which means 32 cosplayers.
Re: DINNER & GAMES
Post By Auroa. 17/02/08, 04:38 am
Oh yeah, that's the biggest problem for the chess game.
Also why we didn't do cosplay chess at auckgeddon.
We could allow some non-cosplayers to join in to fix the numbers...
OR/BUT there is a smaller version of chess with like half the amount of pieces that could work. I'll have to find my research (yes I did research on chess for the games) - there's like soooo many chess games out there.
=3
Of course, Dino! Heheh, our group is gonna rock!
xD Nice idea, Ang'! LET'S ALL BRING OUR SPARE WIGS AND PRETEND THE EXTRA PIECES ARE OTHER PEOPLE.
xD Just down Victoria street, then a little way up Papanui rd. I've walked from there to the convention center heaps, so I know the way well (being a musically able student gets me out to watch performances there a lot, same as being a debater gets me out of classes to watch debates. <3)
REALLY, REALLY short a walk. <3 Only... Three blocks down? I get this feeling I'm going to have to be everyone's guide, even your's, Ang', aren't I?
Neat, whats your schools chess board like, think its any bigger then the one in town...?
and oh really? LOL! I thought it was like a good 15 >>'
um *looks to the ground* maybe? xD
Orrr we could all trust me and we'll wind up being on the opposite part of town (wow I dont even know what the opposite is) =P
so yeah we could go to hagley park or the museum ... gah here we go, already I'm forgetting about armageddon ^^'
Re: DINNER & GAMES
Post By Auroa. 18/03/08, 01:34 pm
lol double post.
Okay so after some discussion, we're thinking of maybe doing a cosplay picnic afternoon tea on most likely Sunday. Possibly after the judging.
It'll be an hour or (if time) more.
Who would be keen?
basically its having cakes and lollies and fizzy drink (okay and healthy food maybe) just outside in that park opposite the convention centre.
Games may follow depending on time.
(there'll still be games Saturday)
I just want to get an idea of numbers, if its gonna be 5 people thats fine, if its gonna be 20 thats fine too. But we need to know and we need to know asap.
Heh, I've only visited Christchurch once, I think I remember enough to more or less find my way around. The only problem with that is I don't actually know where the convention centre is yet. Oh, well. At least I'll be arriving a day or so early, so should be able to work it out.
On the upside I'm glad I booked my tickets last year (Dec - about the earliest I've ever bought tickets for anything). Especially since they're putting up all the airfare prices.
LOL, yeah, I've got a few guesses who was who, but I'm otherwise hopeless with remembering names. sad On the upside I can usually sort it out after meeting people a couple of times though. :)
But yes, I'll jump in on the tour anyway. :) I know where Akron lodge is on B-something street (where i stayed last time) about ~20 mins walk from the square, also walked to at least 3 different malls in various directions, but took buses back. :p umm. know where the train station is, but had to catch the shuttle to the airport. Know where visitor information is off the square, and also there was a memorial bridge a few minutes away if I remember. Lotsa asian signs which was funky since i'm still kinda learning japanese and could kinda read some of them, umm.. what else. locations for at least 2 supermarkets, the central bus depot, more alcohol outlets than I could remember, hagley park with the golf course and the ?botanical? gardens not far off it (cool walk), ummm.. yeah, starting to run outta ideas, was almost 2 (?3?) years ago now.
LOL, Ok, think I kinda know which one you were, but should be able to sort it out when I meet everyone again. I still haven't watched D.Gray-Man yet, will get round to it one day. On the upside, the next lot of Madman releases 'should' be out today, assuming they actually got them in for ratings in time (this time). Apparently that's what's been holding them up lately, not getting them in early enough to be rubber stamped in time for the release date.
