Ode to a Cosplay Wig By The Nerd. 25/03/08, 02:49 am |
| (Incidentally, I've never had trouble with wigs myself because I have not yet cosplayed. But I get the impression from friends and forums that they can be troublesome. Anyway, I felt like writing something that I find amusing.)
ODE TO A COSPLAY WIG
Oh,cosplay wig You were not cheap And my pockets aren't that deep (You'd better fit)
Oh, cosplay wig You do not fit Perhaps I should chop off a bit? (And a bit more...)
Oh, cosplay wig You're now too short So different from the style I sought (Can you get extensions...?)
Oh, cosplay wig Your colour's funny... I do not want to spend more money (Still need to get plane tickets!)
Oh, cosplay wig Some dye or ink Should save my costume from the brink (Of disaster)
Oh, cosplay wig The dye I found Will make you as red as the Aussie ground (Mate)
Oh, cosplay wig You've gone all purple! We know that nothing rhymes with purple (Which is why I used it)
Oh, cosplay wig I hate your guts I feel that I am going nuts (...peanuts...)
Oh, cosplay wig It's just too hard My psyche is forever scarred (I give up)
Oh, cosplay wig I've lost, you've won My cosplay career is over and done ()
Oh, cosplay wig My mind is mauled Next year I'm going to cosplay...bald! (Beat that!)
Sorry about my somewhat dodgy rhyming/scanning skills. And any inaccuracies. |

| Aaand...
YOU WIN.
I empathize with the 'too short' thing.
(My Dante wig is too long at the front... And has hardly anything at the back. D=
xD And the bald thing is epic...
Hey wait... Next year I AM cosplaying a bald guy! xD) |

| Just out of curiosity how do you do the styling? Is it a variation of the hot water method for straightening that I saw someone post a while back? |

Re: Ode to a Cosplay Wig By Suixelo. 27/03/08, 02:15 am |
| Lots and lots of patience (aka 5-10 minutes holding each spike in place), got2b glued hairspray and a tiny bit of got2b glued gel on the tips of spikes. I cut my own (layered) hair and my sister's hair, and I've always had to style my own hair for performances/shows. You get used to playing around with it and just having fun. Best part about got2b glued - it's completely washable/crackable if you make a mistake.
I've never had to straighten a synthetic wig before, I have extensions but they're real so I don't know about the straightening.
And for the cutting side? I just use general scissors, and cut upwards. For layers, I gently slide the scissors down and along the section in the direction I want. Probably not how you're supposed to do it, but it works. |
