DC vs. Marvel
By Sockcat. 18/04/09, 05:43 am |
| So... I know that personally I love Marvel comics. The Marvel universe has X-Men, Spiderman, Fan4, Runaways... Need I go on? And then there's all sort of great crossovers, etc. But I want to know if: a) other people read comics that aren't manga and b) what universe people prefer and why. Just for interest's sake and all that. |

| Personally I am a hardcore DC fan. I mean they made Batman, Superman (although I don't really like him that much he is a very very very popular superhero) Wonderwoman, The Teen Titans!! And so many others! I'm a Teen Titans fiend. Anything Teen Titans related I buy on impulse I'm slowly collecting all of them *has various issues from various series*
I only really like marvel for X-men and Spiderman. Other than that I'm not too huge of a fan, though I do admire their work too. |

| Argh, lost my post.
I love Vertigo. Sandman, Lucifer, Books of Magic (although I'm having trouble reading that as I can't find #2. But #1 was love). Pretty much anything Gaiman. I'm totally in love with the older Batman stuff, reading mostly the one-shots and smaller series though rather than the series as I find them too hard to keep up with when I can't have them ALL. Which is hard. The other DC stuff is a bit eh, although I enjoy the "World's Greatest" with Supes. Supes can be interesting, but only when he's not SMASHING and actually taking the time to talk to Lois. Or when she's being sassy I've got a long-standing love affair with X-men but havn't really got into the rest of Marvel. I don't read much of the newer stuff because the art style annoys me - that horrible computer animated style. I just don't like it. On the other hand I loveloveLOVE Dave McKeen, and some of the guys that work completely in paintings (can't remember their names but I love'em).
I'm trying to decide which of Ellaine Belloc or Maizakeens outfits from "Lucifer" to try. No-one's going to recognise me in either. |

| I love DC. Especially some of the Silver Age Blackhawks stuff (I have a couple of those stashed away somewhere), modern age Green Lantern, Nemesis, Zatanna, Robin, Nightwing, Legion of Superheroes, Birds of Prey and so on. Not a big fan of Superman though. |

| I think if I had the money or the time I could very easily become a hardcore comic fan, this comes from being an epic snob about them when my big sister was into them, it amuses me greatly.
I found a comic book the other day about the death of batman it was interesting, I want to actually read it now |

| Batman RIP? DON'T TELL ME WHAT HAPPENS!! This is a HUGE *SUPERMASSIVE* Plotline that went down in the DC-verse this/last year. Massive spoiler for anyone who cares but lacks an internet connection:
- Spoiler:
They killed off Bruce Wayne! Probably. AND! Sent Supes out into space. Like, for good. I mean WTF!?! Just as those two franchises are seriously making it big in the theatres (again...) they kill their two biggest characters off!
And even Joss Whedon, fan-girl extraodinaire, couldn't make Wonder Woman up to date and relevant and interesting! |

| Yes, as far as klling him off. The way he goes is one hell of a twist....too odd to even consider real almost.
Obviously I'm a comic book fan.
I love both, each have their top heroes. Though DC Vs Marvel comic series sucked. (aside from wolverine and gambit stealing the batmobile.)
I couldn't really pick one or the other. Maybe DC if I had to though. It tends to be darker at times. Though I can't stand Superman |

| Some of Superman is just glorious. Get your hands on "Birthright" - it's a post-"Smallville" book in that Lex lived in Smallville for a while, but it's just... Wow. Really gets in there and explains why Supes is why he is. It's a BRILLIANT character study. And Lois is just FANTASTIC - she's sassy and funky and helps people and kicks butt! And his parents ... and it really explains why Lex is why he is (and it's not coz he's a lunatic!). Serious love for that story. |

| Ah.... I remember I was wearing my DC Shoe Co USA t-shirt once (cos I'm a sk8er boi) and some dude randomly comes up to me and says "Marvel's better than DC" and I just looked at him and was like "huh?". He points to my t-shirt and I was all like "it's a skateboarding brand"
Yea... I bet he felt pretty dumb |

| XD Well... He did have a point. I'm pretty sure DC comics would be bigger than the clothes brand... Maybe... But DC can stand for so many things therefore *obviously* Marvel is cooler, because what other things are called Marvel? Not that DC's bad though. |

| I'm definitely a DC girl - long time Superman/Batman fan. DC has all the neat female characters - Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Wonder Woman... nearly all the comic book characters on my costume list are DC :)
I do like Marvel's XMen, but not as much
(though, Dark Horse does the Star Wars comics, and I have a lot of them...) |
