Old-School Adventure games By creature124. 16/01/09, 04:18 pm |
| Does anyone else LOVE the old school style 'rub everything against everything else until something sticks' adventure game? I used to but for a long time I was brainwashed by hordes of mediocre RPGs (and a few good ones) and ever more mediocre FPS that I forgot the thrill of solving the puzzle.
BUT NO LONGER. I have rediscovered the old school adventure genre, much to my delight. I'm replaying Escape from Monkey Island, which is one hell of an awesome game. I haven't played it in easily 8 years, since when I was ten I went around to a friends house to play it on her computer with her everyday for a couple of months(because it takes two ten year olds to get past some of these puzzles. I'm getting stumped for considerable amounts of time NOW, and I'm 18 XD). It follows the adventures of one Gybrush Threepwood, which basically consist of him getting into trouble, stumbling around for a little while then dragging himself out of trouble, mostly by accident.
Sure, the graphics are a little outdated. Heck, the graphics are ALOT outdated. The graphics are outdated like Rick Astley's hairdo. Sure, the comedy is mostly lame, but there are lines of pure gold in there that have withstood the test of time. Even the lame jokes are lame enough that you can't help but laugh at them.
I love old school adventure games.

| Don't know. Like the old games ( like SNES and Megadrive ) but never really got along well with Adventure type games. Like Escape to Monkey Island
Though adore older games like Sonic The Hedgehog and Super Mario.
Don't really care about outdated graphics. Graphics are just like clothes they age, and seem amazing one day, and then worthless the next :/
The Escape to Monkey Island games where really, really funny and really cool though. |

You are very lucky. A random friend SAT on our Mega Drive and broke it. Don't ask. <___> '' ( 1994 was a horrible year, everything went wrong that year for some strange reason ..) |

| Oh the fun of old school games. Monkey Island is made of win XD. I remember spending my Childhood playing the Original Sonic on my good ol Sega (I was too cheap tp buy games so it was really the onl one I had). Then the other game I played since the day it came out was the Neverhood, Oh God how I love the Neverhood. Thats the only sad thing about running Vista (yes I use Vista) you can't run the Neverhood Properly (cut Scenes Screw up). Heck I am really tempted to do a Hoborg Cosplay one Day (just because I want to run around in boxes) Also I know it was kindof a crap game but I also used to love Goosebumps:Escape from Horrorland (oh the cheese of that game was epic) |

| Monkey Island is sooooo brilliant.
I haven't played Escape from Monkey Island yet, but I've finished the first three multiple times. Curse of Monkey Island is my favourite so far. Lol @ Murray the Demonic Talking Skull.
Another extremely extremely awesome adventure game is Grim Fandango (another LucasArts product.) It's full of balloon animals and paperwork and ceremonial bread and grim reaping. Yes, very awesome. |

| Yes! I have 2 on my desktop actually hahaha. Memories, my bro and I used to play two-player racing and collecting the crystal things. Lol you can change their colours, and he kept changing spaz's colour to make him look more crazy then he already appeared to be rofl.
I loved Lion, thats still one of my fav games too... animal simulation games are awesome. Though Lion was/is such a beautiful and wonderful person to try and run on computers these days. It only works on one of the computers here but its broken >> I hate computers << |
