Boo! By lysistrata. 09/12/08, 04:20 am |
| Hiya! I was into Cosplay a few years ago until honours year got in the way. Now I'm free! I'm between projects at the moment (just got married so no wedding planning am working on our OE but that's not till July, and shopping a novel to agents/publishers) so a friend and I decided to give it a go again!
Although I really love amine and manga I prefer to copslay as western characters. Call me what you will - I'm just more attracted to the idea of making the costumes, etc. We're talking about doing Dracula and Mina Harker from 'Bram Stoker's Dracula' because we're dying to tackle Mina's dress (which looks a lot like my wedding dress :)) but my husband's an armourer so we wanted to involve him in some way. If we do Mina's dress one of us can cosplay as her and the other can wear it to the fetish ball, so it's totally rad.
Apart from Cosplaying I'm a metallhead living in Auckland with the aformentioned husband of DOOM (he's a drummer for two bands). Most of our time is spent lugging the drumkit (whose name is Sinbad) from gig to gig. We're swordfighters with the NZ School of European Martial Arts.
These forums look to be a good resource to begin! |

| quote="4EyedKing"]sadly yes cause i cant find place that teaches sword fighting[/quote] HEMA New Zealand[ This is our school. They've got places all over New Zealand. There's a forum and everything. But there be heaps of other clubs all over the country. I did fencing for a little while but I much prefer martial arts over sports. Deciphering the manuals and trying to piece together applicable prinicpals of swordfighting really appeals to the scholar in me. Beating husband appeals to the anglo-saxon in me :) Balmung: I don't know either of them - I'll have to read up :) |

| i agree the manuals would appeal to the scholar in me and owning someone with a sword just appeals to me. maybe thats the Scottish part had look at the website but the Auckland region all the locations that were given were a bit far away. |

Balmung: I don't know either of them - I'll have to read up :) they are arts designed to take down multiple opponents with the least effort. problem is the blade is very expensive (around $15000) as there are only 3 places you can regularly get them as they have weigted tips and a longer grip than usual. twin blade is fun and cheap though and it keeps you fit |
