Aw you don't have to be chicken to go in a full cosplay! Honestly I was kinda scared the first time I cosplayed last year at Wellygeddon (even if mine wasn't really that great) but you seriously love it after the first go and you'll want to do it more.

Heehee next year (Or hopefully this year if Kingdom of Characters is happening again) we will try to cosplay. We were really freaked this year because it was our first year (kind of) and we didn't know what to expect sweatdrop

It's not like you're the only cosplayer in a crowd of "normal people". When you see other cosplayers you'll feel like you're "one of us" - if you know what I mean xD It's good that there's two of you too. I felt a lot more comfortable with my friends with me!

It's actually it's really entertaining walking around town. At first you 'll feel a bit awkward with people staring but in the end it was quite fun. We went to Maccas for lunch last year and it was pretty much a mini armageddon inside the small Maccas of Lampton Quay.

Also the day I went was when One Direction came to NZ and my friends and I walked past the hotel that 1D were staring at at people just stared at us (some even took pictures O.o) - which was actually hilarious xD

Haha! That sounds like sooo much fun! Totally something we would try XD We're considering getting a small cosplay group (like 4 people) running and then do a flash mob on the streets haha. Our plans are still a while away (in like a week) because we still have school... and my sewing expeditions have been ditched *A* Heehee. But we will definitely do the public cosplay thing :3

So, I'm kinda picky when it comes to anime, but my favourites are Fullmetal Alchemist, Fruits Basket (manga mostly, though), Chobits, Azumanga Daio, and Fairy Tail. I actually hope to cosplay as Lucy Heartfilia one day.

The first anime I've finished was Fruits Basket and I want to get into the manga OTL xD Kuro's reading it haha and she's also watching Fullmetal Alchemist which she's trying to get me into ;D

Christchurch is certainly not what it has been, the layout of the venue doesn't encourage much hanging out space? Not worth it for many people to stay long? The community down here is not as close or active as it use to be? But then there seem to many new cosplayers judging by this years geddon. If the venue changes it may get better next year. And if I get the odd plan or two off the ground at geddon, (or as well as geddon,) it may help change it a little bit too? But I think being in cosplay almost always gives you an excuse to talk to other cosplayers. And people are so friendly and welcoming and encouraging, mostly. Because of others it feels natural to cosplay. It feel more awkward at a geddon without cosplay! It really is a great community.

Hehe. Are you on the right thread? I suppose this applies... Well since this year was my first convention I guess I kind of overestimated it after hearing about AnimeExpo and ComicCon but it was still really cool! Kuro and I were a bit shy in a way to talk to anyone especially because we are young OTL but I got some photos and the people are really nice. Hopefully next year we will get to know more cosplayers and not be so awkward haha. I hope we get a better venue though, I think that's why some people got put off.

For the first two Armageddons, I didn't cosplay. Mainly because I did not know how, and I didn't have a sewing machine.

But then, my Mama bought me one, and I love it!

This year, though, I'm heading to New York and some friends and I are going to Connecticon! We have a Disney theme planned, so I'm going as Belle. Both peasant dress and gold ball dress.

Well sewing is definitely where you start, and one thing you really enjoy/hate about the hobby. But for a lot of people the other people are why they keep coming back to cons, even if they stop cosplaying. Maybe if anyone manages to organise another cosplay event in christchurch then people can start to know others? Either way you will enjoy your time at a con more if you make the effort.

I am finally going to Anime Expo this year and went to Manifest in Melbourne last year. I guess I am lucky, although more New Zealanders are going overseas for cons. But if you ever manage to save a few hundred dollars (and are allowed to go), and wanted to blow it on cosplay I would recommend Auckland. Roughly 50,000 people over four days. Which is up with most of the large American conventions. The most cosplayers, including as many of the CNZ community as can afford to travel. The largest parade and contest to watch or enter. The largest exhibit space, gaming space, slightly better food, and a little space to hang out, even if it is crowded.

There are some other opportunities to cosplay in Christchurch, like Japan Day.

I went to one Armageddon in Auckland. I didn't cosplay, but I did stick on a red coat, red hat and some people asked if I was Agent 99. I said yes, just so I could fit it XD

Mind you, this was two years ago. Before I started seriously cosplaying.

Haha. Sneaky xD. Kuro and I did a Matryoshka Vocaloid cosplay but we didn't wear wigs so it was pretty casual. People still recognized us though and we put a lot of work into the hoodies. Hopefully now that have have a sewing machine *facepalm* I can make what I've been procrastinating. Plus I really want to check out Japan Day <33 Couldn't go this year because of other commitments. I also want to find out if there's going to be another Kingdom of Characters because last year's looked really cool! :/
