i need help on two things, one, what would be the best material to make the body and two, what would be the best way to get it on and off (eg. zip or pins)

Well I'm not sure how you would go about getting the texture of wrapping like that unless you sewed a bunch of strips to each other individually to then form the top, however you could use bandages to do that on the day, but it would take awhile.

Aside from that if you're doing strips of fabric to form the top I would use a knit of sorts with stretch, that way you could simply pull it on like a normal jumper/top.

I'm sure other people will have some bright ideas.

Knit fabric. If you check the label (and usually they will have them) it will be something like Rayon knit fabric. Basically you should feel it to see if it stretches unlike some cottons.
You could just go around the store feeling up the fabrics in the right colour to see if they stretch, that's what a lot of people do.
