Favorite Music in Gaming

Title basically says it all, what are some of your favorite musical tracks from video games?

Though I love all video games old and new I have to say I'm really partial to musical tracks from the 16-Bit era of gaming from consoles like the Megadrive and SNES; a few of my favorites are

Heart of Icegrave - Monster World IV

Monster World IV is an interesting case where the majority of the music in the game is one simple melody that has been re-arranged for each different dungeon you enter. Heart of Icegrave happens to be my favorite arrangement in the game. If you've never played this game I highly recommend it as one of my favorite games released on the Megadrive. If I'm not mistaken I think you can now get this title in English on PSN and Virtual Console.

Stickerbush Symphony - Donkey Kong Country 2

Stickerbush Symphony from Donkey Kong Country 2, an awesome piece for an even more awesome game. The entire game is filled with great music that suits the atmosphere for each level perfectly. I actually only played Donkey Kong Country 2 for the first time last year but the gameplay, visuals, and music all made a lasting impact on me. If you're into OC Remixes you can find the entire Donkey Kong Country 2 soundtrack remixed here

Level 1 - Sparkster

Nothing amps me up like this music! Seriously try it at the gym sometime when you want to really push it. This was the music for the first (real) level of Sparkster, the sequel to Rocket Knight Adventures on the Megadrive. There is actually two versions of this song, one for the Megadrive version of Sparkster and one for the SNES (the one I've posted is the Megadrive version). While the song is a piece of pure awesome the game itself is sadly lacking in comparison to its predecessor sad

Town of the Fishermen - Tombi 2

Slightly more modern this time is Tombi 2's Town of the Fishermen for the original Playstation. This piece is like a welcoming fanfare back into the world of Tombi. While I'm undecided on which I prefer more, Tombi or Tombi 2, Tombi 2's soundtrack is far superior to its predecessor's soundtrack (though that was also great).

Rock Club - Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game

And to finish off, some old school/new school beats from chiptune band Anamanaguchi. This theme plays in Leo's Palace, the third stage, in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game. If you love old school beat 'em ups I highly recommend this game! The soundtrack is superb; I'm at a loss for words on how to describe some of the tracks. I think my favorite track in the game is 'Leave the Past Behind' though I refrained from putting that track up so I could add a bit of variety to this list. The Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game's soundtrack is available on iTunes; if you've got the money I highly recommend it.

These are just a few awesome tracks from video games that I love, hopefully some of you will post your own favorites. I'm hoping some of you will introduce me to a few titles I've never played/heard before. If this gets a few replies I'll be back to post more of my favorites Very Happy

Happy gaming/listening!

Ohoho, I have heaps!

Whenever someone asks for favourite video game music, this one is always at the top:

I call this the 'dramatic final confrontation boss theme' hahah. Ignoring the fact that this music plays after a dramatic scene, the music just feel so intense like 'times running out' kind of feel.

I don't know if its nostalgia since I probably played this like 15 years ago haha. But I always loved the tune in this scene.

Talking of nostalgia, the soundtrack from Sonic the hedgehog 1 and 2 from Sega Master System ;D

All the themes from this game I adore. The music tends to fit with the level, and I love the background noises like animal sounds, wind etc.

I have always liked Kuma's fight theme in tekken 2, it just to me has some mysterious tone I guess.

I can't remember why I like this one so much, I just do hahah. Also Elmah's remix to this is just gold. But, I love all the soundtracks from Serious Sam. This game is awesome if you just want to kill things, when there's more enemies the music becomes more fast-paced.

Jazzy Jacky Rabbit XD specially 2. Another one where I love pretty much every soundtrack, but this one stands out, it just seems so upbeat and happy almost hahah.

New to my list of favourites is a theme from Heavy Rain. Another dramatic type of music, this one has the whole 'sugar honey iced tea going down' attitude to it. Without this music parts of the game would never have been as intense lmfao.

This thread = <3.

Usually, I fall in love with games for their music, not gameplay. I can forgive bad gameplay if the music can make up for it most of the time. That, and a rather healthy amount of research/references to various mythology goes a long way.

So! My favourite tunes, in no particular order:

Chrono Trigger! Easily one of the best World Map theme music I've heard in a game. Memories of Green is also good for the sense of mysteriousness and tinge of melancholy.

And on that note...

I have a lot of fondness for the Golden Sun franchise. This theme and Garoh were one of the many songs that made me just stop playing so I could keep listening to it longer.

While I didn't (and still don't) find Marche's story to be as compelling as Ramza's from Final Fantasy Tactics, I liked the battle music in FFTA more than its predecessor. I'm still not quite sure why this one's called "Painful Battle", but...

THAT (synthesized) SAXOPHONE. DAMN. <3
There's a good reason why Godot is one of my favourite characters in the Ace Attorney series.

"Hark! The call of the heavens, the Earth, the sea...
They summon me forth to defeat evil!
Waka, the gods' gift to man is here! Bonjour!"
Seriously, everything about Waka from Okami was fabulous. His general appearance, his actions, his gratuitous French... And most importantly, his theme. <3

I'm not exactly familiar with the entire Castlevania series, but this song from the Order of Ecclesia is convincing me that I need to go through the soundtracks of all of them.

And speaking of Scott Pilgrim...

The first stage music just blew me away.

There are a lot more vidya game songs I hold dear in my heart, but I can't be bothered looking them up I'm sure I'd clutter up the place.

... Oh, and chuck in the entire songlists from the Pokemon and Touhou games. ALL OF THEM. 8D

@ Auroa
Wow it's been years since I've played Time Crisis, I'd forgotten how great the soundtrack was Very Happy

@Tracer Kinship
I've never really played any of the Castlevania games but just listening to that piece makes me want to get into the series!

Objection! - Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney

My favorite piece from any Phoenix Wright game! I just love the vibe this song gives me whenever I hear; it totally pumps you up for the amount of awesome Phoenix Wright is about to lay down in the courtroom.

Bramble Blast - Super Smash Bros. Brawl

This is a remix of 'Stickerbush Symphony' (which I previously posted) from Super Smash Bros. Brawl; I actually heard this version before the original. This is one of many tracks, and my personal favorite, which were masterfully remixed for the release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I can still remember when I heard this playing in the background of SSBB's story mode. It creates a surreal feeling inside of you that matched the stage perfectly as it feel like reality's falling apart.

Bridge Zone - Sonic the Hedgehog (Master System Version)

A very underrated game; maybe not in NZ where the Master System was actually quite successful but you don't hear about this game much. The Master System version of Sonic the Hedgehog was the first game I ever actually completed at the ripe age of 5 (go me!) I've always loved the music for Bridge Zone, unfortunately from my memory the calm music only matched the visual look of the stage as I was always panicking about jumping from one collapsing bridge to another, and then the dreaded self-scrolling screen on act 2 pale
