Turning your skin a different colour -- !!

Hey guys!

I'm cosplaying a troll from the webcomic Homestuck, and they kind of look like this:

their skin is completely GREY :'C

i was wondering if anybody had any suggestions as to how i might achieve this? i found a really good tutorial, but it was written by an american and only lists american products, which is kind of unhelpful ;;

if anybody knows what kind of products i should get, that would be really, really appreciated. i'm a bit of a newb when it comes to applying makeup you see, haha! i'm pretty sure that i'm looking for theatrical make-up here, in a cream or cake style...

also, FINAL SEAL -- where the heck d'ya get that stuff?

Minifies is the BEST place i have found for theatrical make-up
they are based in chch but also have an online store,
they are REALLY nice and VERY VERY helpfull plus they happen to be pretty cheap compared to most places i've looked at nodnod

Agreed than Minifies is the way to go for makeup. They used to have testers of Ben Nye makeup which last for ages but the one I go to in Chch doesn't sell them anymore (unless you buy a bulk set). Make sure to buy a makeup sealant so it doesn't smudge - if you can't find one hairspray works ok... but feels kinda gross.

For the base colour, I highly recommend Kryolan Aquacolour, which you can buy on the Minifies website. You use a sponge or brush to apply it (sponges are best, they leave little to no streak marks), and apply a tiny bit of water to it, then scrape it through the make-up and put on your skin. All you need to get it off is soap and water and a bit of scrubbing, too, so it's not going to be stuck on you FOREVAR.

It's what I used for my {...} cosplay, as well as Beelzemon a couple of years back (but we pretend that outfit never happened), and you can see a pic of how it turns out here --> http://www.cosplay.com/photo/2653269/

I've used blue, green, turquoise and violet versions of it for various things over the past couple of years, and it's my favourite skin colour-changing thing, so yeah. =D! The only issue is that you'll need to touch it up every few hours, since it comes off in areas where you sweat a lot (forehead etc), but other than that it's cool. =D

idk how you'd do any extra stuff you want to do on top (shading, highlights, etc) but that's a start, right?

but yeah naw, i dunno. depends on what time it is, and if i have money, and if i can ditch uni for a couple of days or sommat...

One problem with Aquacolour is that if you sweat or get caught in the rain, there's a pretty large chance of it rubbing off.

If you can afford it, the Ben Nye airbrush make up is THE BEST I have ever used (and I've used a lot of this stuff professionally). It lasted for so long and was resistant to cracking.

Make sure to load up on moisturiser a few days before hand- twice or thrice a day, everywhere you plan to paint! And lots of water! :>

Also, you can use hairspray as a sealant.

Also seconding the sealing/watch out for it rubbing off aspect. Last thing you want is to hug someone and have half your paint come off, plus leave big marks all over 'their' cloths/costume aswell.

Kryolan Aquacolour is pretty stable - it only rubbed off on the edges of clothing I wore for two days. - Def get a friend to help you apply!
