Any 40k Cosplayers? By Stabby Mgee. 07/02/11, 04:38 pm |
| I'm currently in the process of making my (first ever) costume for WellyGeddon, I'm going as "Try Again" Bragg from the Gaunt's Ghosts series. I thought it might be fun to enter the Cosplay Contest, but I'm far too chicken sugar honey iced tea to go up on stage alone. Is there anyone else planning to enter the contest with a 40k costume who'd be keen to enter as a group? |

| Sorry bro you're a year too early. I was thinking (if circumstances allow) about doing a 40k or fantasy battle costume for next year.
However, I'll still cheer for you this year.... orz |

| Actually, now that I have more brain function the an amoeba today: How are you going about your heavy bolter?
I have an plastic ammo chain with bullets lying around from a Storm Bolter I never made that I could lend/sell to you.
- Spoiler:
It's about 68"/170cm long and each bullet is on a clip so the chain length is adjustable. |

| Weird that you knew I was making a heavy bolter, given that Bragg's standard weapon is an autocannon. As for the construction I'm sort of winging it, I started with a cardboard box and a few 3d renders off the net then I just added bits on as I figured out how to make them, right now it's basically just the skeleton, it's dog ugly at the moment but once I've papier mached and painted it it should look great. It's an astartes pattern heavy bolter, there's no way I'm lugging it around Armageddon without a decent handle.
As for the ammo chain, thanks for the offer but those bullets are too small and too pointy to be heavy bolter rounds. I'm making a box magazine so that only part of the casings are visible, but I'm using tin cans for them. If I'd made an assault cannon like I originally intended those would have been perfect, god-damn hindsight. |

| The bullets are 3/4"/1.8cm - they're pretty big shells; About the same diameter as the replica boltgun bolt which was released a few years ago. I only suggested as it would look more imperial guard-ish & plus it'd be more bad-ass; like the Gunnery Sergeant Harker model.

| An ammo belt would definitely suit the guard better, in fact that pic has given me an idea of how I might be able to make one, depending on how many rounds I can make. |

| I love the Gaunt's Guards books! (but I love the Cain ones more )
If you haven't found them yet, I found the Obscurus Crusade forums really great for help and critique with my 40K costumes. |

| I was thinking standard black BDU's from comrades or trademe for the uniform not too sure about the camo cloak. I'm too sure about the tattoos but i'm rereading the first 3 books so it should be easy enough to find out |

| Sweet, do you know how much the BDU's cost at comrades? I'm a student so I'm kind of on a budget lol.
Also, does anyone know where I can find kraft foam in Porirua or Wellington? |

Most $2 shops and stationary warehouses have craft foam in A4 sheets for a few bucks- if you want A3 Gordon Harris has some too.

Re: Any 40k Cosplayers? By Stabby Mgee. 18/03/11, 01:08 pm |
| I don't need it to be particularly thick, it's mostly for the details on the HB and possibly the tanith knife. Speaking of which does anyone know what they look like (single or double edge, handle shape etc) and how I could make one? kraft foam is probably too thick but I can't think of anything else.
I've checked all the $2 shops in porirua, as well as spotlight, haven't checked warehouse stationary yet so I'll give that a go. I saw in another thread that Gordon Harris was really expensive, so I'd rather not go there if I can help it.
Also, I'm planning on "scratching" various quotes etc onto the heavy bolter and the ammo, so if you've got any good ideas let me know. So far I'm planning on putting "To the last man and the last round" on the bottom of the HB, where the ammo belt attaches, and I'll also put stuff like "Kill the traitor", "Burn the heretic", "Cast out the mutant" on the individual rounds, sort of like the HB wielder in Ultramarines. |

| I've seen full sets of BDU's (shirt and pants) go for about 100 on trademe but if your in a budget then black cargo pants start at about 55 depending on he size. |

| Hmm, I might be able to get the full set, I'll have to see how the HB goes first, it's proving more expensive than I anticipated. |

| I'll planning to buy some heavy drill from spotlight, I doubt they'll have it in a camouflage pattern though, so I'll probably have to improvise. |

| I just got a rain poncho from comrades in wellington, I think the guy said it was a ex Czech republic does the job but i'm going to sew it back a little bit to add a bit more freedom of movement only cost $25 so it's good if your in a pinch plus it won't take very long to modify if your short on time like me |

| Thanks, I'll probably swing by comrades on monday to get one. I've just run into a problem with regards to the wig though, the one I'd planned to buy from Pete's emporium turned out to be too small for me (I have a massive head) Does anyone have any idea how I could modify it to make it larger, or where I could buy a bigger one? |

| My hair is very curly and a bit past shoulder length, the only pictures I've seen of Bragg show him with short, straight black hair.
I'm probably going to wear it on saturday, last I checked they still haven't posted when the cosplay stuff is happening though. |
