"The Voice" By Shinjitsu. 02/07/10, 03:29 am |
| Hmmm.. ok... so, I tend to crossplay a lot, and there isn't really much that bothers me besides the breast-binding, but I do find some crossplayers that just irk me. Why? Because they crossplay a 'manry man', but somehow he ends up not having his balls dropped yet T_T I don't actually have a problem with the voice & such since I have a naturally low voice lol, and it's cool to see other crossplayers, but some don't even try. *sigh* So, all you crossplayers out there - have a problem with the voice? [or do you even try?] Generally it's fine if the guy's effeminite or something lol, but come on - SEPHIROTH AIN'T NO GIRLY MAN!!!! =___= |

| Does it really matter? As long as the person looks like the character, the photos will come out alright.
To me, its about the image - not neccessarily about the way the character is supposed to act, unless its for the skit and photos. Anyways, in competition skits nowadays, the skits are recorded therefore you can have a female crossplayer perform with a male voice over.
But then again. There is no right or wrong, just opinions.
Edit: Its not that the crossplayers are not 'trying', they're just wanting to have fun. =P |

| A lot of girls just sound stupid when they try and talk in a low voice (and vice versa when boys/men try to talk with a high pitch). And most lot of people don't do the LARP aspect of cosplay, anyway.
I guess I just don't think it's an issue. |

| Voice doesn't matter at all with crossplaying in my opinion.
I notice I do unconsiously lower my voice when crossplaying (I also sit like a guy and adopt a more manly way of walking without meaning to as well, it's wierd) just as I unconsiously use a higher more girly pitch when cosplaying more feminine female characters but really, I don't mean to do this or think it adds to the costume |

| As said above, it doesn't bother me either (when other people do it)~ I haven't crossplayed but plan to and I don't think it matters overly much.
^~^; Personally it's more about looking the part (in my opinion) rather than acting, so unless it was for a skit it wouldn't matter whether your voice wasn't low enough. |

| The voice of other crossplayers has never bothered me. And I don't bother lowering my own voice.
I see crossplaying as simply dressing up as a male character, as opposed to trying to pass as a boy. |

| I'm doing my first proper crossplay this 'geddon, & I doubt I'll bother lowering my voice, I'll mostly be talking to friends all day that won't care about my voice, & Tidus doesn't exactly have the deepest voice anyway. Also I think if I tried, I'd sound like a right twit! |

Re: "The Voice" By HomicidalHeroine. 02/07/10, 05:46 pm |
| I don't tend to try that much xD; Buuut... with that said, my only crossplays have been Near and Vexen-- Vexen doesn't have a particularly low voice (especially not next to, say, Marluxia and Lexaeus), and I'm pretty sure that Near's voiced by a woman, isn't he? xD
Next year for Conrad, I probably won't drop my voice too much either, mainly because I just can't get away with a manly voice unless I'm taking the mickey xD I will be trying to stay as close as I can to his accent as possible, though, and my voice does go a little lower when I do that particular accent C: |

| @Kitten Slave This made me lol a strange amount.
As other people said, the voice usually doesn't matter too much imo. Though it is very awesome when a crossplayer has the right "voice" as well... at the same time, it can sometimes make it very awkward when you confuse the crossplayer's actual gender... |

Re: "The Voice" By vefalasiel. 22/03/11, 03:28 pm |
| Crossplay is pretty much all I do. (8 out of 10 cosplays with another 2 on the way) and I always try to sound masculine for my skits and when really getting into character, but for just talking to friends and things it doesn't matter. My voice is pretty low to start off with and I have the acting manly (standing, sitting etc) pretty down pat after 7 years, but if it just doesn't work for some people then it really doesn't matter.
@carnione. I was so glad when that happened to me last year. Some kid asked if I made my costume and when I said yes they said "holy sh*t, you're a girl!" |
