| hmmm, I would say try practising anatomy and proportion. You can find lots of tutorials on Deviantart. Can't say I'm very good myself, but yea practice always makes perfect, and observational drawings are very helpful in brushing up your skills (like drawing random objects around the house) |

| J~ my dear friend. I say you can look at a rule of thirds for your faces. They seem a little long. You probally just need to move the eyes down further. If you look in a mirror your eyes are halfway down your head.
As Icarus said look up anatomy and proportion tutorials on dA. |

| Everyone's drawings start off like that. Hell, you should see my earlier drawings and my ones now.
It takes time and eventually you learn how to draw better. You're not going to brilliant from the second you start. If someone says "the limbs are too thin" don't stop drawing, start drawing them a little bit thicker (:
You're only 14, you have years ahead of you to get better. |

| I agree with Pura~
A year ago's drawings for me are completly different from the ones I currently draw. (Especially from two years ago.)
You could use some of the advice the others have given you, trust me the Tutorials on DA are actually really helpful! (I certainly did x3) You've got ages to practice, just keep going :3

| Haha, I remeber my drawings from 2 years ago.. man, they were bad. But if you practice and practice, it should get better! you are still only 14! My drawings have improved a lot during these years, so I'm sure yours will too! Just don't givee up! I agree with everyones' comments here. |

| I'll critique your work also!
Actually, your proportions are pretty okay, its just anatomy, lol. Looking at it, you draw quite linearly (top to bottom), am I correct? I do it this way (LOL) and its perfectly okay to, but drawing linearly means you have no judgment of how long (the height) your character will be.
This is not an attack on you, its how most aspiring character artists start. (LIKE ME xD)
Have a good look at how life drawing artists draw, or even take up lessons. There are also some good anime pose reference books and tutorials online.
(Plus you draw way better then how I did at 14 OTL xD) |

| If you just want draw as a hobby, and become decent at it along the way, then all you have to do is not stop drawing. That's it. You don't have to ask for critiques; especially when you're doubting yourself.
It's just my opinion on the matter, but you shouldn't be asking for critiques at this stage. You don't need people pointing out what you're doing wrong, because it's hard to get anything right when you're new at something which requires skill (even if valid suggestions are made); you'll only be setting yourself up to be disappointed. Critiques are more applicable to those who need direct adjustments to an already sound foundation, it's nowhere near as effective when the foundation itself still needs work and everything is a long-term process. That part is up to you; as long as you keep drawing you'll build skills and the foundation will sort itself out.
You don't need to take guides, tutorials or follow any directions at such an early stage either. It's optional (and helpful) but not essential by any means. All a new artist needs is perseverance and support. Critiques? Not so much. Wait until you're at least mediocre artist, then you'll be able to make better use of them.
You're 14, that's younger than when i started drawing anime. If you want to become a good artist, it's not too late for you to do it. You just need to keep at it, is all.
Though, if you'd rather spend your efforts on other things like studying instead, that's all good. It might be better for you that way actually lol. |

It's good to hear you'll stick to it, especially after your parents just bought u a new tablet. Would be such a waste otherwise..
But yeah, as long as u keep at it, you'll become good at it. It's the only way i've gone about drawing personally.. I've never used critiques, tutorials, guides or any of that stuff. It could have helped, sure, but i still got to where i am without it.
However, you do need some sort of reference. Just drawing from your head won't do (it'll take you forever to improve that way). You need at least one model artist whom you can take from and develop a style. It'll be their style at first, but once you get good at it you can tweak and change it to your own. The main thing is to get the idea of how to produce the general structure of what you want achieve.
In other words, copy your favourite artists and just have fun with it; you don't have to listen to critiques. I'm not saying this is the proper way to learn to draw, but it's how i've been doing it and it's probably the most enjoyable way (for us casual artists) to go about it. |

| Good luck :)
Everyone starts off copying at first (more or less). Life drawing is pretty much just copying, it's not a shameful thing to do in that respect.. rather, it's quite necessary. Just remember to credit the source if it's that similar to the original so you avoid any such accusations. |

| J~ Keep drawing >w< I agree with Des. When I started out I'm pretty sure I copied pictures hard core 8D; It's just how you start. And then as you get better you can add your own stuff and make it your own. |

| i know this is an old topic but i thought i would share some advice.
I agree with Des about the drawing out of your head, I did that for years and didn't really improve, but back then i was drawing for fun!! if you want to improve use references, do some life drawing. if i could go back to your age, that is what i would do!!!
I would say work on the head proportions first, once you get that down, you can use the head size as a tool to measure out the rest of the body, it also depends on the style you wish to go for, as for me i draw body lengths between 6-7 and 8 head lengths long depending on age etc.
Although the way i draw is retarded, starting with nothing but the eyeline... Also you do not have to be drawing to improve the brain is a marvellous(note the spelling lol) thing, i was going through depression at one point and stopped drawing for almost a full year and when i returned back to it i had improved. Just looking at things and how they are made up helps.
i hope i've helped! |

| ah yeah it is pretty good, your proportions are coming along nicely. That is a good start to shading, now all you need to do is be "patient and meticulous" and practice lots!!
I struggle with the patience part ALOT which is why i haven't colored in aaaggeess, but hopefully get back to it when i get an adapter for tablet. |
