New Auckgeddon dates

So Auckgeddon has been confirmed for the 28th-31st of October next year.

Is anyone else annoyed with this? With exams on those EXACT dates for a lot of uni people (they were for me this year), school/work on the Friday+Monday, who will be able to go? Chances are I won't be. I can't imagine travelling all that way and not entering the cosplay comp on the Monday. (Assuming it will still be on the Monday) They could have kept it on Labour weekend and just added Friday to it. I'm going to comment on the Armageddon facebook page and ask why. Grrrr.

EDIT: When I made this thread I was unaware of the rugby. Now the dates make sense, and even if I can't go well then tough cookies.

IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE SENSE

Might as well just have it on the weekend. It might be /slightly/ better if the comp was on sunday.

I'm in the same boat. School starts up then, we have big photography/art/design boards to do, then theres work etc, I just dont see the point of going if i can't enter the comp :C

I hope they put the contest on the Sunday or Saturday, then at least most people can enter. I might be able to wag a day of school though I don't think my dad would approve and I might not be able to. :/ It's kind of annoying the rugby moved everything around, I think they'd have more luck putting geddon right with the rugby since a lot of people won't even be able to go see it live and then you could get some international people.

Bet we won't even get to the finals 8D

It had to be moved back a week because of the Rugby world cup. :/

Personally I think the rugby world cup should have to be moved for Armageddon.

If it hadn't been moved it would've fallen in the holidays which would have been super ideal. :C

Instead it's the weekend after the start of the school term. =A=;

Most of the hotels in the area have already been booked. It's not just the rugby, it's the final which means cluster physics of people. I don't like it either but business wise it makes sense (it would be awesome if they made the couple dozen cosplayers who fly up/ have exams priority but they'll be going for families who would otherwise be preoccupied with rugby/ wanting to avoid traffic)

Oh I didn't know it was because of the rugby. That makes sense. I just wish it was pushed back even further. I guess I'll just see what happens with me, I'm planning on going to a con in America next year anyway so I might just flag Auckgeddon all together.

Yeah sorry guys. There was no way that Armageddon could happen either the weekend before or during Labour Weekend.

Because the RWC organisation has the Auckland Showgrounds fully booked during this time.

I think that Michaela and I will be having a talk to Bill for next year only changing the competition to maybe the Sunday. :)

I might be slightly anoyed but otherwise the dates dont affect me since I only go once a year. If the comps on a sunday i might enter with a group.

Comp should definitely be moved to the weekend.
Where's the fun in competing if half the people can't even enter?

& DDD8 accommodation during world cup. I had completely forgotten about that.

My mum already really wants to go to Comic Con in america, if I can't go to Armageddon, hopefully I can convince her to take us there next year or the year after..

Slightly back on topic, grrrr, rugby. I'm confused about the dates and how it conflicts with school terms and stuff, but getting to school is gonna be crap if it is during the school term.
Hurrrr. How many peope from overseas will be coming over here for that, d'ya reckon? My dad thinks like 30-40k people D:

actually back on topic, I really don't think I'd mind that much as long as everything I wanted to go to [Comp, cosplay games, anime panels etc] falls on the weekend.

I raged at first, but yea I guess it would be one of those things that you can't really change.
But if we can ATLEAST have the comp on the Sunday and move the cosplay games to the Saturday then it'll just be another 2 day con, which is fine for me

It would mean dropping 2 cosplay groups but, siiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh.. I don't like rugby getting in the way of my fun

Sure I can come to all the days. My group actually spent 6 days in Auckland. It felt like a holiday.

But why would I? What more are they offering that they need 4 days? Three days is not enough to catch up with everybody. But if most people are not going to be there two of the days then is it only worth going for two of the days?

Again I have to wonder why four days, especially if there is no holidays.

Well, I have just under a year to convince my parents that Auckgeddon will be worth missing school for. Maybe it'll be in one of those funny weeks I have at school where it's just revision in every subject.

Highlander raises a very interesting point- What new things will there be that require four days? Or is it to compensate for the attendance they'll miss out on because of school/uni people not being able to go?

4days - mostly because when people filled out the comments/opinions form many put they would like a 4 day con.

Another problem in heading into November is Melbourne Cup. While not a big thing here in NZ it still effects what/how people will spend their money.

While cosplay is a component (and I personally think an important one) it is not the only decider in how Armageddon operates, and what they do at the event. )

its my third and final hopefully year at uni next year so this will clash with deadlines for uni.
So i'll probably only go 2 days (the weekend)

I'm sure that some welly and chch people would like longer cons too? Welly was O.K. at 2.5, would have been better as 3.

But yeah, maybe two days to hang with friends, and one day to actually see the guests?
