I don't play DMC so really I can't be of any valuable comment to the re-design as I don't know the character myself. Though I've seen the anger all over the internet.

The Trailer, however, is very cool. Re-design of an old character terrible or not.

The GAME looks good, and I'll still buy it - it's not that he doesn't have white hair or a red coat - it's that he looks like Dante made babies with a dog, and then one of those babies took a dump and named it Dante.

Am I the only one that likes the new design? Yeah he looks like a young roughian, but I don't see how that's a bad thing. They must have wanted to design a character that's not similar to the origianl Dante, and I think they did a great job. He looks like he could break your face, and he's hot too.
Plus RegnieRiku was just telling me that it's a completely new storyline and everything, just under the DMC title. Like how Final Fantasy does with pretty much every game so you can't say that's a bad thing either. Giving DMC a fresh start might be the best or worst idea yet, but we won't know til we play the game will we?

As Tails said, it's a reboot of the franchise, not a sequel. It's just DMC not DMC5.
Besides when you demand sequel after sequel when Capcom ran out of ideas 10 years ago of course there are going to be drastic changes. Don't want your favourite franchises ruined? then don't ask for a sequel. The only way a franchise can remain sacred is if it stops as soon as people love it, because when it continues on to 5 games, it's bound to make at least half it's fans unhappy by the end.

Personally after the issue that got infamous 2 pushed back 6 months I am not happy with fans. If a change in a game annoys you don't buy it. I don't see the problem anyway. Ninja Theory is doing the story for the new DMC so it will have a real plot that will probably have depth and be quite engaging. If you enjoy the gameplay and the storylines of DMC games why would a different looking main character change that?

Plus the new Dante design looks like I did back when I had that hair style, so I'm not gonna complain.

^ The problem is, Capcom still had a lot to cover in the series. We had no insight into Nero's past (unless you read the DMC4 novel, but I would be somewhat disappointed if Vergil was Nero's father and that was that), they hadn't explained what caused Dante to get all emo between 4 and 2, and it just generally felt... unfinished. I know Capcom opens more holes than it closes, but really-- there have been mysteries lingering since day 1 and all sorts of stupid hints and things to come that just never came to fruition.

Also, even though it's slightly off-topic? I am glad they pushed inFAMOUS 2 back. The original design they had for Cole was nothing like his original incarnation and they didn't even have the DmC excuse of 'oh, it's a reboot'. They took the hint from the inFAMOUS fans and rejigged things, and that willingness to admit they were wrong is admirable in a company. Now inFAMOUS 2 is looking way cooler, and much more in harmony with the original, and I am a happy fan. (if only they'd get Zeke a better outfit for the sequel, though... nah, I'm kidding, that'd just be nitpicky.)

Don't want to sound mean or crude or anything, but it looks like they 'Americanized' him, and got rid of his 'anime' look, so it could sell well in the western market. It looks like they don't care what the original fans of DMC think and just re-styled him to make him looked less Eastern designed. It would be normal to aspect this sort of thing with Metal Gear Solid, but DMC not really. I also think that they are trying to keep up with the times, and modernize the series, 'realism' is the 'in' thing and the new Dante looks way more realistic than the original.
This might be a "They changed it so it's RUINED FOREVER !' game. xDD';

@Bartzluver IT IS A REBOOT OF THE ORIGINAL FRANCHISE! It is not DMC 5. It IS the new WESTERN DMC series made in partnership with Capcom to keep the great play style of the original series. The old DMC series is FINISHED. So don't worry. Us non eastern game players won't ruin your series for you. We are just making our own western version of it using the company that made your beloved eastern one.

At first i was against it but since we sadly dont have any say in the character now (since they took a whole year to design him :/ ) ..i think i'll give it a chance...maybe they might do a reasonable job with it
