| Hey guys does anyone have the link to the site with lots of Chch earthquake pictures? Its got a black background and pictures are always being added to it. I'm pretty sure there was a link here (or on twitter) but I can't find it anymore >_<;
Also earthquakes seem to be popping up round the country. Or is it just that I am becoming more aware of them? |

| I'm back in 5 days so maybe not - just talked to my mum and found out that quite a few shops and stuff round my place have been taken down and my aunts' place has a huge crack in the wall. If things haven't quietened down before I get back she may move in with me for a little while.
Sending virtual hugs out to everyone!! Just hang in there and stay safe, please - I want to see you all happy and healthy when I get back. |

| What! That was only a 5.1! It felt bigger than that! I was so freaked, I thought it was another big one like last time for a moment there. Our power went out (Again!) and didn't come back until 8:15am. It took me 10 minutes to get through to my parents. >_< There was another smaller aftershock after that one, FFFFFFFF

So much for sleeping, haven't so far since last night, looks like I'm not going to now. Screw this! Physics off Mother Nature and leave us alone already!

Yeah I think so, according to the old lady in the front house, they had power 3 streets down from us. Our area didn't get hit as bad by the big one as some places did, makes me worry that it will be our turn for some major damage next time around. >_< |

Re: 22.02.11 Earthquakes - A year on. By Crazy. 08/09/10, 01:53 am |
| it felt bigger because it was only 6km deep, the shallower they are the worse they feel~ and we cant really expect a big one, earthquakes are impossible to predict. they only think that because of the amount of aftershocks, but there's no way they can tell ^^ so dont panic :) though these aftershocks are so scary! >< |

By 'Christchurch' they mean city centre. If you google maps the Latitude, Longitude you see it was the edge of the city close to Ferrymead. That, mixed with how close to the surface it was, is why it felt bigger.

| I hope all other people in chch are ok, we're to expect weeks if not longer of these after shock, hopefully they die down faster than they are at the moment. Been out volunteering the last two days around town, gotta say how amazed i am and how proud i am with the turn out of hundreds of christchurch students and locals banding together to really put in such a huge effort and make such a big difference.
The locals who we've been helping are very happy to have people around to help them and i think there's a general happy vibe going through the workers seeing such a positive effect that it's having on the community and their properties.
REally hoping every one, with families, business, churches and social groups (especially CCC!!!) get back on their feet in due time, until then, I hope every one stays safe and trys to keep a positive outlook on things!

Re: 22.02.11 Earthquakes - A year on. By Guest. 08/09/10, 05:12 am |
| I'm starting a new CNZ initiative!
Evacuate a Cantabrian!
Air NZ is showing relatively cheap seats out of Christchurch and apparently they're making a major effort to help people get out of the city for a while. And apparently a lot of people are very keen on the idea.
Can you let a Cantabrian sleep on your couch for a few nights, to let them sleep properly and lower their blood pressure? I sure can. I'd have to kick the flatmate until he cleaned the living room so you can FIND the couch, but it's open for a person or two to sleep on for a few nights.
How about you guys? |
