| Well that one wasn't nice poor son didn't like it very much, stupid aftershocks >_>. If i had of rolled off my bed on Saturday morning I would've had the moniter land on my head. I went into the fetal position. Was so dead tired and scared that I couldn't move. |

| I agree with JP. It is interesting though, and this was being debated a couple of days ago on another NZ forum. But, I've heard so much negative comments about the person and that theory (someone call mythbusters on it.) If its so valid I don't understand why we're still being taught (via websites/civil defense etc) to go under tables. I'd say go for what you think is safer (for me thats gonna be under my desk as its extremely strong.)
And wow, that was a long aftershock just then! (edit looks like it was a 4.4) And there goes another. I swear the aftershocks seem to come in 2's or 3's close to each other and then we have a break. Well thats what it feels like >_> |

| about that aura (If its so valid I don't understand why we're still being taught (via websites/civil defense etc) to go under tables.) thing my friend gave me a huge heated argument on that cos i was just telling them what i had just learned in geography and she was basically stomping me out with that idea- so im not sure whats up with my geo teacher...cos we hav two too 0.o
oh another aftershock-----

| Just make sure your house knows it is suppose to collapse in a triangle on your side of the room. From what we have seen the roofs seem to stay in place, and the outside walls disappear. So not very triangluar. Otherwise find a sturdy desk. Better to be trapped in a desk triangle. Not only will a door frame slice you, anything will. But the door frame is still a pretty solid place to be.
Lesson, buy solid desks. |

Re: 22.02.11 Earthquakes - A year on. By Mandie_Chan. 06/09/10, 11:36 am |
| Currently my family is baking food for the teams working in the CBD to give to them tomorrow. So if anyone else has free time, come join the baking train!!!
Also I have some younger friends who are so panicked about the earthquake and aftershocks. I am fully running out of things to say to help calm them down (their whole family is safe and their house is crack free). Got any suggestions?
Can't wait till all these aftershocks stop... after awhile they just get very annoying. |

| Can't really blame them for panicking. It kind of feel like there is nowhere safe enough to be when their homes are supposed to be the safest...I'm trying to come up with a solution to calm people down too. =/
I'm trying to resume my normal days, maybe not actively going out but at least studying, I can't focus yet. The shocks are pretty disruptive in a way. |

| @ different safety theories
Some of the walls caved in. These were bricks. If you think about it, the triangle theory would no work, and a table (if sturdy enough) would probably be better. The triangle theory seems to work for solid wooden walls that will fall in one bit, not a brick wall that falls in, well, bricks. |

| Mandie, how young? If you've covered the general stuff... hmm.. well I know some parents have been telling their kids that the Earth has gas, or is hungry - trying to make it less scary and more funny. You probably wont be able to take the worry completely away though.
I still can't get over how constant they've been, at least it looks like its been less today? Maybe? *hasn't counted* Have you guys seen this? The earthquake map. |

@ Mandie Chan. I used to get told about something like there was cheerful elephants up in the sky playing a game of bowling, but that was for heavy thunder and lighting. Maybe change sky to underground ??xD'
*Just wants this nightmare to be over and done with.

| ^I agree with you there. I'm so thankful to be alive, with my house unharmed. Water, power, phone.
@Aura She is 13. She understands earthquakes and everything. I don't know, it's just getting to her. Paranoid maybe? Either way I seem to be the only person she is turning to for help >_<: |
