I am a terrible person

I have to say though, driving through at 2pm, all of the broken fences were up, the broken glass was covered and shops were open. I'm aware I was in an area that wasn't too badly damaged but I saw it at about 10-11 this morning and it has changed. New Zealand bounces back fast.

Good on the Civil Defense and the country (for the most part) for their quick action and planning to help make this a less traumatic event for people. Kudos to you guys!

Snow is okay :] She and Viktor (our cat) jumped under the bed!

We just drove around. The damage in the CBD is way worse than where we are. I am impressed they have managed to block everything (woah! aftershock) off that's damaged (cones around road damage, entire CBD roped off, fences around damaged buildings). I want to see what's happened to the Cathedral in the square :[

There isn't much for us to do up here in Chch, don't worry. Mostly sitting around waiting for power/water/sleep. XD

Im getting so sick of failing alseep just as an aftershock hits. 3 hours sleep is just not enough. Especially when the night before I only had 3 hours sleep too D:

I know. x.x If I have the choice of going to bed for a few hours, or staying up cos I'm going somewhere in a few hours, I always stay awake. Going to sleep for only a little bit can leave you waking up more tired than when you went to bed. </3
Kinda like keeping watch at night. It always sucks to get the middle or last watch, cos then you're tired for the rest of the day. The first watch is always the best. ^-^

Super nervous about the possibility of a big aftershock. Me and mum have been gathering torches and such in case the power goes again, and I've taken most of my things off shelves/bookcases/etc >_<;

What comes to mind now, actually, is them ads that were on tv years ago. The ones about them metal things that secure bookshelves and whatnot to the walls so they don't topple over in an earthquake. There were also nonslip mats for objects that could possibly slide off.
Ahhh tv. Where would we be without you? xDD

Sounds like most people can stay in there homes. But I have two spare rooms and beds for three people if needed. Running water and power.

Wall brackets are awesome-i asked Dad this morning of we had them installed, worried, and he told me they installed them the second we moved in. They are essential.

Finally got to talk to my Grandmother! They're doing an inventory of whats been lost. They biggest shock still seems to be that it happened to Christchurch-They were worried that they were only getting the aftershocks of a Wellington quake.

More bad news I'm afraid guys. According to the news, Canterbury is due for a BIG storm. Seriously heavy rain and gale force winds. Also, they're warning about looking out for small fires, so keep a extinguisher handy!

About the big earthquake predicting to hit the south Island, there's also another one that's overdue to hit the south, there hasn't been a earthquake from the Canterbury Mountains since 1981 so not only is there a big one assumed to come soon, but two.

I'm moving to Auckland. Sorry Christchurch guyz. >__>';

Its like being in some kind a movie...
Initial quake hits, followed by aftershocks, floods and fires.
State of emergency declared.
Warning of a possible big 6 aftershock.
Curfew declared.
Warning of a storm with 100+ winds.

Dude.

Hearing the rumbling before it begins shaking is really really scary, I must say - cause you wonder if its the big one.

Have you guys been getting quite a few strongish aftershocks in the last 15 minutes? According to another forum it looks like only parts of Canterbury are feeling them. We sure have X_X
