Hi guys, just wondering if anyone has any stories of when their cosplays have gone wrong xD . Could be when you were making it or when you were wearing it. (Add a link to a photo if you have on haha)
Here's my fail. And I've done it more than once ^_^': Lalala... making costume. Woo, I'm done with the top. *goes to put it on* Gar, my head doesn't fit! Yip my fail is not making the hole for my head big enough.....
Hopefully someone has a funnier story than me xD |

| I made a cosplay for Auckgeddon '09 (Shana from Shakugan no shana) and it was one of the first things I had ever sewn and I made it in 6 hours without a break. The skirt was too short and tight and ripped at the side on the day. I also chose all the wrong colors XD Feel so bad about wearing it. |

Re: Cosplay FAILs By firecat70. 25/08/11, 07:39 am |
| For my first cosplay I decided to spray paint white shoes red. The first coat came out really well, and because I had stuffed them with newspaper they didn't crack. Then I noticed the bit under the buckle was still white so gave them a second coat without newspaper. The combination of that and the thicker layer of paint meant when I put them on for the competition that they started cracking almost right away ;___; Then I tried to fix them with red nailpolish which made it even worse. I stressed out about it all day (and probably left a trail of red paint chips behind me...). I also had no wig but didn't become embarrassed about that until much later XD |

Re: Cosplay FAILs By Tails. 25/08/11, 09:06 am |
| Oh man I've failed so many times...the worst would probably be when I was making Ultimecia, and for some reason thought it would be a good idea to glue the fur onto the dress while I was wearing it. I used super glue, put newspaper underneath so it wouldn't touch my skin and away I went. I let the glue dry, then tried to take it off...and the glue had seeped through the newspaper and glued the dress to my skin. I had to literally rip the dress off me (OUCH) which left a horrible rash for days. Why I thought glue couldn't penetrate paper I have no idea. It was only my 3rd costume so I like to put my mistakes with it down to inexperience...heh heh... |

| Rofl, I must concede that I had considered gluing my bresticles to me during ACB, but common sense did prevail! I am impressed to know that someone else literally did glue their costume to them selves, and even more impressed that for all my idiocy, it wasnt me!
I did however use copious amounts of spirit gum. Enough that spirit gum remover meant nothing. I lost a lot of chest hair that evening...
Ooooh, and I learned about shaving your legs. Do not go over then like 50 times with a sharp razor. I was short a few layers of skin after that adventure. Mmmm, nice smooth legs... I havent yet figured out what the "Do's" are.

Re: Cosplay FAILs By Pyro. 25/08/11, 09:31 am |
| (note, this is more a 'putting cosplay on' fail than a 'cosplay making' fail, though the cosplay accompanying it was pretty crappy)
Gather 'round, children, and I shall tell you of a time long since past...
It was seven in the morn' on October 27th, 2008. Rousing early from my bed, I crept to the bathroom, to begin the long and treacherous path to readiness for the con. In one hand, a roll of binding tape. Little did I know that this tape would yet be my undoing.
At some point, between having a shower and putting the rest of my costume on, I seemed to have come under the impression that binding would work better if I taped the entire top half of my torso, from bellybutton to underarm. Never did it occur to me that this was an unwise idea. Somehow, neither did my plan to do this binding without anything underneath.
The day wound by past me, loose and free, unlike the tape around my torso, which was becoming progressively more painful and uncomfortable. And then came the moment of truth... 7pm. That night. Shower, once again raining down upon me... fingers, meeting tape once more... and the screams of anguish as, tears intermingling with the shower-water, I stripped my binding away.
I believe, wholeheartedly, that this is possibly the most blatantly unintelligent and masochistic thing I have ever done in the pursuit of cosplay, and I am proud to say that afterwards I made a binding device that involves no tape. But I have not escaped unscathed... to this day I have several odd red marks on my upper stomach that I attribute to this happening. Never make my mistake. Always use non-adhesive binding, and don't overdo it. |D
ON A LESS DOUR NOTE, there is also the time when I superglued gloves to my hands!! And my consistent inability to make gloves that don't give the impression of some sort of weird hand condition!! Oh, the myriad cosplay fails I have experienced over my five years in the hobby. Long live epic cosplay fail. |

| These are funny xD... we gotta laugh about these things. Mostly comes down to inexperience I guess and that 'I'll just wing it' attitude
*EDIT @Pyro. That binding experience sounds painful D: |

Re: Cosplay FAILs By Mischa. 26/08/11, 01:00 pm |
| 1) Getting a scabby neck from the collar of my Sister of Battle armour rubbing. It was the bottom of a black plastic bucket with a slit cut in it and I didn't round the edges.
2) Making my Spider Splicer hooks from a polysterene core so they snapped in half in my luggage (luckily they could be glued back together) ALSO getting a huge cold and having my hands strapped to the hooks so I couldn't blow my nose, I had to beg my sister to do it D:
3) Leaving a dipilatory cream on my upper lip for waaaaaay too long and ending up with a light chemical burn the day before 'Geddon. So glam XXX
WHILE MAKING!
1) Making a leotard from 1 way, instead of 2-way stretch (I'm not sure I can elaborate on why this was terrible in a g-rated forum...)
2) spilling pva glue all over a book I was lent (I'm still mortified)

Re: Cosplay FAILs By flash. 27/08/11, 11:33 am |
| While making have a tendency to sew sleeves or pant legs the inside out to right side out pieces... but I think that one is a common mistake.
But I think the cosplay Fail that I've done that is worth mentioning is probably my JENOVA as it was far too cumbersome to get out of and not the easiest to move about in. I it also was not very easy to eat in on top of that as in order to sit and eat something I had to have someone hold to top of the tube so it wouldn't go off balance and hull me forward....
my one friend so lovingly took photographic evidence:

Re: Cosplay FAILs By Pura. 27/08/11, 01:15 pm |
| Leaving last year's comp. cosplay till the last night. I was supposed to dye white fabric purple ... As it turned out the white fabric was synthetic and I had to paint everything purple |D.
I'm also quite good at making things too thick to sew through so I have to hand sew things together P: |

Re: Cosplay FAILs By Cinnamon. 28/08/11, 05:11 am |
| I hand-sew most of my stuff, so that's always amusing if I'm not fully paying attention - I've accidentally done a few panels of fabric facing the wrong way and had to unpick them >.<
Also my Raikou hoodie. I cut off the most vital part of the hood itself, and it refused to stay on my head... which made it awkward for anyone trying to take photos, since I had to hold it up with one hand. Not so good. Also the pants for that are too small. I guess it's good that I have the oversized cloud and tail to cover any buttcrack I may accidentally display xDD;
Fleece is also not an awesome fabric to use. Winter fabric inside a hot building isn't always terribly smart. Then again, at least it's not closed over my face, so I can breathe.
Fortunately I haven't had any of the painful experiences that you guys have illustrated D: And I'm fixing up Raikou for this year, it's almost a half-fursuit now...made of fleece. |

Re: Cosplay FAILs By Yunca. 28/08/11, 04:09 pm |
| Hmm well with my contest costume last year my wings were made from this plastic stuff which i hot glued velcro onto to hold them onto my back. But i found the hot glue didnt hold the velcro on for very long. They completely fell off at the end of the con tho phew XD.
also on my first costume i had a pouch that i put velcro onto to hold it on my skirt. At lunchtime however it fell off, the velcro had peeled off so basicly i had to use sticking plasters to stick it to my skirt for the rest of the day. Luckily they held on while i was on stage tho lol then fell off after XD

Re: Cosplay FAILs By Aikome. 30/08/11, 03:35 pm |
| That one time, I'm terribly embarrassed to admit to, I spent the whole time at the Auckland Geddon Ball oblivious to the pins still tacked in my collar. Nobody told me either I guess that's what I get for not checking mirrors as often.
The few times I've "cross-played" the binding fell off.
Didn't make any difference ^ ^;
The many times I've made a cosplay too wide (usually around the waist), because when trying it on or measuring I don't bother taking off the clothes I'm currently wearing. There's also the usual sewing mishaps... attaching pieces the wrong way, unpicking something then realising you didn't actually have to, asjfhkl. |
