Flandre's Wings of DEATH
Post By Blooberry. 04/04/10, 10:40 pm

So I'm gonna be cosplaying Flandre Scarlet to DO [from Touhou Project] and I've got most of it sorted out-except the damn wings.

http://th00.deviantart.net/fs49/300W/f/2009/170/4/0/Flandre_scarlet_by_Atlas_kei.jpg

So far I'm thinking of doing a wire-base-covered-in-fabric-thingy for it, and plushie crystals, however..I would like shiny crystals and I have no idea on how to do this. :<

Any ideas or help would be loved!

IIRC, there was a tutorial on making jewels from hot glue gun and glue... however it requires a mould...

You could hunt around in op shops? Craft stores? Use beady crystal things.

If all else fails fairy lights (you know, the Xmas ones)? 8D

Oooh I might try the hot glue one! [but make them hollow, otherwise i would die under the weight]

I wanna put lights in them...so they glow 8D
xD

My only concern is hitting people/having people slam into them and breaking them etc
[which is why I was gonna do plushie...]

I'm sure the clinking noise would be enough of a warning... and if you plug them fairy lights in it'll be flashing...

Why don't you create a base and wrap fairy lights around it? Very Happy

For Gwendolyn? 8D
Hmm, I think if I run a wire through the base bit, under the fabric, and make little gaps to run the wire/lights through, and hide a small, preferably flat battery somewhere on my person...
I might be able to make my wings glow c:

Large Christmas light?
It may be possible to find large lights shaped like this, they also have the convenience of being light up and lightweight

Mmm, the problem being I would probably end up carrying a large battery or having to be plugged into a wall. xD

You could find a tutorial on how to make the plumbobs (the thing from the sims) and add a shiny coat of pva glue or something to give them that shine.

But if you do that you want to make it out of some really thick cardboard like the boards used in most art classes for their end of year boards. I don't know if you have this but it's really good

You could use papier mache, and spray them with hairspray if you're cheap, or give it a shiny finish coating (like varnish) if you're not so cheap for a shiny finish? Very Happy?

As far as the actual wings go, I shall refer you to the tutorial I used for my haibane wings~

http://www.nekomitech.net/taters/

I'd just cover them with some brown fabric/

http://www.whatishcc.com/tutorials/polyesterresin.php This might work?
