Indented Scars - EASY!
Post By Mischa. 04/04/10, 12:01 pm

This Sunday I got many questions on how I created my scars, so I thought I would write a little tutorial on how I did it so you too can look like you have walked into a propeller.

I use a substance called Rigid Collodion - you can order it through Minifies (or not- I tried and the site crashed) and get it from places that sell theatre makeup. It is VERY flammable so it must be shipped as dangerous goods - which makes it a little pricey. It smells like nail polish from hell.

Also do a small spot test on your arm first, especially if you have sensitive skin!

http://www.makeupmania.com/Details/IA-0036-02-600.cfm

Here's how I did it (if you are a dude who doesn't wear make up you may have to adapt it) - have fun experimenting! This is only a rough guide of how I did it, I have no experience with makeup apart from everyday prettifying stuff.

1.Plan where your scars are going to go, this stuff sets nearly immediately and takes time to remove. DO NOT USE NEAR YOUR EYES! Even if you don't get it in your eyes the skin is finer and it will sting horribly.

2. Prime your face so you have a nice even base to work with.

3. Do your normal foundation + concealer

4. Apply the colloidon - layer it until you get the depth you want - at this stage you can add some redness/browns/ if you want fresher lookingscars. You can use anything in your makeup box as long as it's not all glittery!

5. Apply any blusher/highligher if you use it

6. I like to power to set the whole thing- it also removes the shinyness of the colloidon.

7. Do the rest of your eye/lips

8. Carefully mist your face with hairspray to set - (Close your eyes! unless you want to look weepy)

You will have to re-apply during the day as it peels off on areas that move alot.

here is me testing it:

Ahh Collodian <3 So useful. Sometimes dotting a bit of spirit gum at the ends when it's half dried will keep it down a little better. If it's around places like your jaw, though, it will eventually peel and stuff.

This sort of stuff will mess up your eyes but good, so take Mischa's warning srsly.

PS: The scars look freakin' sweet 8D

Such a gentleman! I'm very pleased they looked genuine.

@Le_Saboteur thanks for the tip about spirit gum- I found I had to reapply at lunch because it began to peel off (just like a scab ...ewwww)

There was one hospitalisation of a kid at ChCh with the stuff. So do test a small spot in on your arm like Mischa suggested.
