Clash of the Titans By Aikome. 18/04/10, 05:19 am |
| Honestly, I thought it was kinda crap. Anyone else with me ? =w=; . . there's no development and seems a waste. I mean, Andromeda ( or whatever her name is ) doesn't have any point to be in the plot at all except to be rescued from being a sacrifice. And I'm sure in Mythology, she and Perseus were meant to hook up. Not just share a few looks and almost imply something is gonna happen . . and nothing does. So disappointing. The only thing I liked was the presentation of Hades. He was cool. <3 |

Re: Clash of the Titans By Guest. 18/04/10, 06:09 am |
| i haven't seen it but i think it's safe to assume anything that has something as asinine as 'titans will clash' in the trailer, when the movie is called friggin clash of the titans, is going to be a bit sugar honey iced tea.
i mean honestly what could you possibly have expected |

Re: Clash of the Titans By CMKMStephens. 18/04/10, 02:17 pm |
| Well actually, the movie contained no Titan's clashing at all. They were mentioned in the swirly space prologue thing, but never again.
Clash of the Titans 3D:
Much clashing, no Titans, and very weak to the point of imperceptable 3D.
Here is a disclaimer to prevent people thinking I am being the Classical Studies equivelent of the Simpsons Comic Book Nerd:
Every Greek myth has dozens of alternative versions (though only some still surviving in literature) effectively playing out alternative versions, opposite endings, or almost entirely different stories with the same characters. This is one of the reasons Herakles seems to pop up everywhere and in every chronological time period within Greek myth. Only in some versions does Oedipus kill his father and marry his mother. Trying to conflate these into singular right and wrong versions is a pretty useless and frankly, stupid approach. The 'standardized' versions we'll all be familiar with are the result of people attempting to catalogue them, versions that became especially popular through Dionysian plays, etc.
As long as the movie makes sense somewhat within the context its define itself against (Greek Myth) I'm fine, take all the liberties you like. But why when you have a score of potential versions of the story, or failing that all of Greek myth to cherry pick monsters out of, do you randomly add in sugar honey iced tea that doesn't fit?
Reading the plot for the 1981 film, it followed the actual Greek myth pretty well actually. Why on earth this film decided to deviate from it, I don't know. Every decision I suspect was to make it 'edgier' and modern. Instead it was more like they were aiming to make a movie as dumb as Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. It was a good effort, but nothing can come close to that sinkhole.
Somehow the romantic interest got transferred from the Princess Andromeda to Io. Io doesn't even feature within the Perseus myths in the slightest. She was some woman that got turned into a cow. Yet Andromeda was in the film as well?
Why have Kraken and Djinn?
A KRAKEN? That's like, 2000 years out of sync. Greek mythology when made 'chronological' for all that's worth, is about 1200BC or earlier. Vikings and Krakens are 700AD or later. I know that the original 1981 film had a Kraken in it, but it doesn't make it any less weird/stupid. At least the original had the fricken sea monster sent up by Poseidon. Not Hades. They also run into a bunch of Djinn. Ignoring the fact that they somehow end up in the desert in Greece? (according to the credits it was Ethiopia), Djinn are again a mythical creature some 1500 years out of sync. To be sure, the Djinn was awesome, but it doesn't really fit. |

Hades DID look cool though, I have to admit that.
And Perseus having a shaved head pissed me off. lots. |

| I liked the giant scorpians. Best way to travel! I didn't like how predictable it was on who was going to die though, bit lame. The witches were fricken' freaky looking, really reminded me of the 'pale man' in Pan's Labyrinth. & personally, if I was offered to be a God, I would take it!! |

I lol'd. So hard. Also, I agree with CMKMStephens; there was no clashing of Titans. It irked me. Why call a movie something that it's not?? This was a mis-match of random mythological features. I mean, wasn't Perseus the adoptive son of a king? I also missed the winged booties... Amoung many other things. What was with the talking wooden sand people? While I did like how they portrayed Io, she seemed like a totally irrelevant plot feature. And the fact that Perseus fell for her because she'd been watching over him his whole life? Hmm. there's something not healthy in that. |

| it was a visually good, scorpions & Hades' smoke wings = AWESOME
but yea the plot was crap. Though in regards to their target audience wanting more fighting, not a 3 hour film, and heroic 'Ima save the princess!!1!', then I think they got it down. |

CMKMStephens - Exactly. While there are many various versions ( plus the Roman and Greek differences ), there was a whole lot of sugar honey iced tea shoved into the film. At first I though Io might have been Athene, watching over him but she's just a filler. A RANDOM RANDOM. The kraken thing is ridiculous. While in some Mythology she is meant to be saved, it is from a sea monster. Not a kraken.
Ahaha, when Perseus' father said he was going to give back to him I thought he'd have his family. > >; Guess not. |

Re: Clash of the Titans By Zeorymer. 19/04/10, 01:03 pm |
| Aside from the fact the plot deviated from the first movie, and even more so from the original, the plot really bugged me.
Plot Holes (and spoilers)
- Spoiler:
I thought the whole point was Perseus showing that Mortal > God? He spends the film going, "Na bro, I'm human as", then after his entire party dies fighting Medusa, picks up the lightsaber without a further thought. Excuse me, but your message sucks, especially when you can't even deliver it properly.
And, after going through THE UNDERWORLD to fight Medusa, which was a ten day journey across deserts that never existed in greece, he flies back home in under ten minutes? I though we were in the underworld, or clearly HELL WAS ON EARTH ALL ALONG.
Thirdly, they mention that Medusa has the power to turn Mortal Men to stone. Its explicitly stated. Then, they mention that the Kraken is an Elemental Monster spawned from a God. How does Medusa's head work again? I know it's supposed to, but that doesn't mean you should bungle the explanation as to why it works.
All of Andromeda's scenes sucked. Including the one where she feeds orphans, because we're supposed to care that she's going to get sacrificed.
Props to the Monster Hunters though. |

| I found it extremely funny when the ancient greek lightsaber appeared and was all like *shineSHINYGLOWGLOWHUMMINGNOISE*.
Then the expendable secondary character nonchalantly goes: "That's a gift from the gods" as though this was an everyday kind of thing. |

Otherwise, I wasn't too impressed with the movie. The only consolation is that I didn't have to pay for it. |
