heya everyone im new here, just getting used to the site lol

just one thing about Armageddon in Wellington...im going to cosplay, yeah my first time. Going as a US Marine Infantry Man, 6th Marine Force Recon Battalion of Operation Flashpoint 2.

You may also want to watch out on the gun side aswell, only take it out for photoshoots etc or just around the con itself. There have been reported cases of people walking through town with weapons prompting calls to the armed offenders squad in the past. Sounds crazy, but apparently it's happened before. Otherwise welcome. :p

considering how some of the hall cosplayers at Auckgeddon had GIGANTIC katana then it should be fine~ (I think it's only the cosplay contest doesn't allow it)

You won't be able to enter the contest with it, thats for sure, but around the expo you 'might' be ok, no guarantees tho. ;p

i was just looking at some picture on facebook (expo) well i did see people with Weapons (Airsoft or Paintball guns)

There is an airsoft stand at ChCh Geddon. And the guys were them around Geddon.

Of course you have to be careful walking around in public with them. But that is common sense.

And yeah I walked to and from Auckgeddon with three Katana's. No problems.

You do realize that Armageddon is a pulp culture expo. You get airsoft people, SCA people, gladiators, cosplayers, nerds and geeks, and all sorts of loose cannons. They even sold swords there. It was never going to be a problem. They were an obvious part of the costume.

PS. There was a sniper there in full Ghille Suit.

As for in public. Well that is a little more vague. You must not carry a "blade" over 12 inches without legal purpose.
Do my Katana count as a blade? They are blunt. (Need to angle grind them some more to make them combat legal, still have some sharp burrs. Cheap junk.) I was in full costume walking half a block from a well know convention to the motel. I think it is legal purpose. The SCA and other groups practice sword fighting in public parks/schools, etc. They are fine, no one questions them about if. Sure other martial arts do the same from time to time.

But the again the police will send a car or dog to question me. They would send the AOS to question someone with a fake gun. They have done it many times before. People have been shot by police unnecessarily in NZ before because of this. Just tie it up in a blanket roll/use a gun bag to and from the venue?

What really got me was that at ChCh there was a stall selling poor quality wooden training broadswords. I would not have objected to the sword stall doing that. However this stall was selling them to kids. So you had really young kids running full speed through crowds almost stabbing and hitting people by accident, and then fighting (poorly) with them. I mean a heavy piece of wood can kill people!
