Vanitas Keyblade???

I'm going to be cosplaying Vanitas for the Friday of Auckgeddon this year and I was wondering what would be the best material to make his keyblade from?

I've heard alot about craft foam but I'm not sure what it is, how to use it or where to get it from sweatdrop

So if anyone can help me out I'd be really thankful lol

Possibly plywood as a base, with craft foam for the detail? It'd be much sturdier.
I think you can get craft foam from Gordon Harris or Payless Plastics (or check trademe, maybe.)

.Craft foam can also be bought at Warehouse stationary ... its about $4 for a pack of 10 ...and its about A4 size ..

im not sure where else you can buy them from ...

but i agree with Cactiberry.. Plywood as a base would be a good idea..

I agree with the others ^ thin plywood.
like with the scythe i used plywood then put this foam stuff overtop (no idea what its called)
but with this keyblade it would make it REALLY DIFFICULT to cut out o__o;

I see that plywood's been mentioned on here, but as an alternative try 3-layer corrigated cardboard.

It's probably alot cheaper than ply as most factories/retail stores throw it out, so chances are you'll pick it up for free from a furniture shop or a factory with sends out alot of carboard boxes.
It is also easy to shape as you cut with a knife rather than saws and power tools.
2-3 alternated layers (i.e. first sheet of card going up and down, second sheet going left to right; poossible 3rd up and down again) is enough to do the trick and have decent strength.

^The cookie monster there has a point...

the cheaper option is defo Cardboard... wont be as hard as wood.. but its alot easier to shape and generally alot faster (imo)

a couple of layers would make it quite hard.. (you could also add a few layers of paper mache for extra strength then cover with Craft foam )

I agree w/ cookie monster, layers of cardboard would be easier -nods-

You could go to Pararubber, they sell craft foam (EVA foam/closed cell foam) with heaps of colours, lengths, and thickness.

Regarding Vanitas keyblade...i think you might have a problem with the bit on the end (where the half closed eye is) ... in the pic its connected by chains... and if you try and replicate it with cardboard...you might come across afew problems when swinging it around >.> ...
