Maybe in order to fill an hour, it could be more of an introduction to cosplay? A catwalk mixed with information about cosplay, with questions, answers and advice etc? Maybe show a couple of videos or have a performance for advertisement for the games as well as the competition.

Excited anyway!

Cosplayers are probably the only people who actually go every single day to every single event. We make him a lot of money lol! XP

The 501st is the squadron/legion name for the Star Wars Empire Cosplayers. (The rebel alliance cosplayers have a diffewnt name). Anyway, the squadron became so huge and epic, that George Lucas actually included him in his Star Wars universe storyline, and Palpatine named the 501st as a special squadron largely made up of the Clone Troopers who survived the Clone Wars and Order 66; although they added to their numbers once members started dying out, and mostly look like regular stormtroopers toward the end.

Outpost 42, is the NZ branch of the 501st, and has to do with the location of NZ as being 42 degrees south (latitude).

Oh yeah... Cosplayers make Geddon Awesomesauce! I enjoyed Auckgeddon so much more, cosplaying, than I did the three times I went casually. A parade is a great idea, and would really help grow our numbers.

its an awesome idea but maybe it can be trialed up in auckland no matter what the trial is like i wellington just so Auckland cosplayers can get a taste of it ^__^

an hour is a great amount of time, there is so much that can be done in that time..
the catwalk is a must especially with music and funnies
and it could be a great time for those that dont enter the comp to do their own skits and their talent with their cosplay.
that wouldnt hurt the competition im sure
liking the idea of the "introduction to cosplay"
there must be a sing-a-long song for all cosplayers too XDD

an MC.. id attempt to do that, i have the voice but not the face for it tho XDD
(as long as i still get to cosplay and do the whole armageddon experience im happy)

a Parade sounds like fun but it sounds like too much to organise but im sure in the future it can be looked at again ^__^
*imagines cosplayers running amok in the city*

Actually it would be quite cool if the MC could go over the materials used or some info about the character too. *Likes Suixelo's idea*

@Maxi: They trial it at a smaller con first and if it's successful then they do it at the bigger one.

wow~ seems like recent events have allowed cosplay to become even more famous! AND RULE THE WORLD!!!
I'd love to say I have super awesome ideas... but sadly I don't T_T
Maybe with the MC LOL Mandie Chan /is shot we can have more than one. It would take the pressure of the one person and they can also make it more relaxed (like with what Angie and Jen do at the cosplay games).

oooo... we could have different categories? game/anime/manga/movies/tv shows etcetc or is that to much effort?

A parade is a fantastic idea. Cosplayers are gaining huge momentum in NZ now, and as well as bringing us to all the days of all the geddons I'm sure it's a draw for the norms as well to see people in costume.

I certainly get a much better experience when I'm in (albeit pretty fail but I'm happy) costume.

Ideas for a parade...

Maybe split it up between made and bought costumes. Each have their own merit but I think it's important to draw the distinction.

Depending on the size of the stage you could have people coming on, strutting their stuff, posing for photos and then standing at the side of the stage along with others while the next person comes on. When the side of the stage is full, move those people off to a final cheer and start again.

You'd probably want something like a mock beauty pageant to help fill the time, but one thing we've noticed from the games is that some people are more nervous than others and are OK in their costumes as long as they don't have to speak too much.

*Finally understands the 'south of the bombay hills' phrase!*

I'm not sure how good and idea this is or not, but another thing the MCs could go over is how much money each costume cost. I know the general public doesn't know just how much goes into these things, so if we're aiming for 'educational' with the cosplay parade then that might be a good avenue to explore.

That sounds cool JVCA, kinda like a fashion show:
"... and the latest in Clan Biscuit designs this season..."

Oh, just randomly thinking and bopping along to disco music on my playlist... how bout a soul train line?
You know with 2 people walking down the middle, dancing to the music.

Post By Maxi-me. 15/11/09, 12:49 am

i just dont want to hear that it was a failure >.<
*raises hopes*

Suixelo's idea is awesome!!
does that mean that MC has to do research on every cosplayers costume and their character that will be attending or will there be forms for cosplayers to fill in so the MC dosent have a hard job because it sounds like alot of work.. even just to give Q&A.. on specific parts.. ohwell it sounds like it goes with the job lol

just pay the MC to keep them happy XD
2 MC's sound way better because the sound of the workload will be exhausting..
it will be great to see the interraction on stage making it fun for themselves, the audience aswell as the cosplayers ^__^

haha i forgot that there was life after bombays lol
im from Te Aroha next to Paeroa famous for something lol so i should have known that lol

dancing to music for the cat walk is an awesome idea but maybe not everyone will like the soultrain due to them not being born in that era XDD
they may prefer their own music or theme music for their character perhaps...

Rather than the MC doing any research, there could be a basic form that people can fill out either online or at the armageddon info booth?

i think it would be better if the form could be filled in online aswell or a template that can be made for those that want to participate.. of course having forms that can be filled in on the actual day, just some people would want to get into it early perhaps..

dlkflg oooh wow this would be pretty fun ;D It acknowledges those who spent loads of money on premade cosplays as well as those who hand made them <3

I'd deffo join in (:

If we were in a group on that day, would he whole group go up and walk it together? :3

Lmfao it would be so awesome if we blocked off streets and paraded but yeah... xD /thinks of the xmas parade that happened today.'

Oh and I think it might be better if we didnt have much talking? Cuz talking kinda takes up time O: and if there are lots of people participating it might end up being rushed D: and some people are uncomfortable with talking infront of others... o:

just throwing in my ideas xD

Double MC to cover the 'oh hey, iuno who this is' problem? I'm pretty sure everyone's said that but imma just illiterate, but like something with slowish (as in no running on and off so everyone misses what who went by) prosession of people and comments by the MC's? With plenty of humor mixed into the discussion of the costumes? Like sports commentators, lol.

I'm really just saying what ever one else already has so, yeah, this sounds like a most excelent plan, wish I had the confidence to MC D:

this sounds like a great idea, i'd totally participate!

agreeing with pretty much everything nina said. idk, some peope are alright with talking and stuff on stage but when you can tell a person is nervous and they awkwardly have to answer to questions.. i cringe. i feel so embarassed for them. it really does not look good. xD

i think walking on the stage alltogether with music and stuff would be good. and photo op!
maybe there could be a few skits or dances?
if there really was a need to fill time in with talking or whatever, maybe it would only be a few people, those who actually want to?
idk about you guys but i'm not really bothered about talking about the technical details of my cosplay.. however, i do like the idea of acting in character and stuff.
so maybe character related questions? xD

the soultrain idea sounds snazzy. <3

and. i think that music is a must!

sorry, i haven't had a chance to re-read the other pages, but i'd make the following suggestions.

1) model is around a runway type system.
2) fill in info sheets for participants so the MC's can read out stuff about the costume as they're up on stage.
3) multiple mc's, preferable 2 or 3 co mc's so they can plan and/or pick up slack if someone gets tied up.
4) compulsory posing of at least 15 seconds! (so people can take photos!)
4a) use masking tape to draw an X on the stage where they should stand for the photos. ie: central, well lit portion.

erm, yeah, i'm sure i'll think of other ideas that i'll no doubt post at some point, but thats them so far.

random 5) - big foam hammer/bat of some kind to shoo people onwards if they stay on the stage for too long.

lol!

Also the term parade can be substituted to exhibition, pageant or what have you if it will help.

http://thesaurus.reference.com/browse/exhibition
http://thesaurus.reference.com/browse/pageant

Two MCs would be good :)

So so far the idea seems to be circling around having music and groups of people on stage at a time rather than walk on walk off individually? Pretty much like a real beauty pageant. Maybe we could have a talent section ;) Evening gown section? Q&A (World peace).

Pre-registering will be difficult because it will be on the first day of the event. However it will be possible to get forms sorted to be printed at home and handed in on the day and have forms at the info booth (will clearly label contest and parade on them!) so that there is something for the MCs to work with. As it is non competitive this then is less of a chore than it would be for the contest!

The big difference here is that it is better to have fans for the MCs as they will be able to ad lib and interact with the cosplayers. Keep that fun feeling. No jokes at the expense of the cosplayers though!

There will be lots of delegation, oh so much, so anyone interested in organising music and being MC (will be handling all the forms as they will be the ones to use them) please keep putting hands up :)

I don't know how many people do drama at school/uni but I know we had lots of evenings of skits and entertainments and improve that may or may not be useful ;)
